I belive there was a past few threads on this. If memory serves the devs aren't apposed to a Mount music toggle, but they are unable/time investment to do so in 1.XX.
While i have always loved the Chocobo music standard, too much of it tends to kill the luster. I very much enjoy the Gobbue music but don't always like riding something i can't really see infront of. I would at some point enjoy using that track on my dear Chocobo or hearing the music of the land/area i'm in.
As a possible compromise, what if in 2.0 the chocobo music plays but after maybe 1 or 2 loops it fades out to the area soundtrack? After all, if you've got a long distance to ride it could be nice to change things up after a bit.
If you want to hear the mount BGM, don't toggle.
I agree 100% with the OP. Luckily, Rina is not a developer and this is being implemented in 2.0

This is not new. I do believe we got a response on this long ago. 2.0
Wow, and here's me thinking I dug through every shred of forum looking for threads about music. Well played, all. At least I'm happy about them working on it. Can't ask for much more than that. :)
I requested something like this a long time ago in a different thread. I believe at one point one of the devs
Said they were indeed adding some form of toggle in 2.0 so those that wished to hear the world music while on a mount could.
LoL if you don't want to hear the choco music, just don't use your choco.
We all got along just fine exploring before there was a chocobo available.
Why, in my day, we had to get all the nodes in the game, and explore those obscure lv. 99 areas ALL ON FOOT! And we were happy to do it! Even though it was uphill, both ways!
