You do get notifications that you refuse to read your mail is seriously on your end, and no sympathy in that area, also you don't need a house... most players don't at all as they just keep it like some stupid status symbol anyway... that includes most of the so called housing enthusiasts that claim to be living the dream in an universe that has so many limitations that they should find an actual housing simulator instead.
This.
Although, if I may be so bold as to make this thread more exciting with a hot take:
it does raise an interesting spectre in that some people who lament "ghost houses" will defend paid AFKers, "you don't pay their sub", etc. They aren't actively playing the game, right? Same as how OP wasn't actively using the house?
For reference, I am very much in the "any time there's an expac/major traffic spike, AFK timer should go down to like 15 minutes or something" camp, which I know it does (isn't it actually like "only" reduced to 30 minutes? Or something equally graceful), but yeah. Get rid of the people who aren't actively engaging with the content, I don't give a crap about your character /beeskneesing and clogging the server up while I'm trying to play; similarly, get rid of the houses of people who don't even use them.
Seems like auto-demolition would serve its purpose if the player isn't going in their house - regardless of their online status. If buying dark matter is your only use of the house - buy it off a vendor elsewhere and just relinquish your plot.
The problem on that part is that the game spams way too many windows and messages that are completely obsolete. I dont need to know the recommendations of quests, i dont want to visit the help page. So either its ignore or click away as automatic behaviour. This sort of clutter needs to be gone. Not just shifting its location, it shouldnt show at all.
However, in all cases i did notice the housing lottery message, because of its proper location (and because i made sure other notifications wouldnt collide). This would be an excelent warning location for housing. If all clutter is gone, and this is the only message, then you can truly said its their own fault. Anyone who truly cares about the house will regularly use it (even if its just to access retainers and not interacting any futher). They will make sure to reset the timer.
As it was a house that wasnt used, i dont see any sad losses here. Sounds like proper demolition.
Why is the assumption so negative? If you are not playing that actively as they said but still use the house otherwise it makes sense they want to keep it because they actually want to use it later. Not like you can snap your fingers and get another one just like that. A notification in game would be nice, as in an actual pop up to warn you that you click to confirm. And I have kept my house since 2019 with many extended breaks. I still use the house so I will keep the house and the others I got till I quit the game entirely or the servers shut down.
Seriously, if you are playing the game and logging for raids, there is no excuse: it's just laziness and/or total carelessness. Just step in your house once in a while, You don't even need to keep a calendar. It's easy to know if it's been a few weeks or about a month. If you don't have a rough idea that it's time to step in your house, then you don't care and don't deserve a house. There's always this time before raids where the party forms and most statics take a break to refresh the instance/ as needed.
