Money wise, I'm not sure the game can support it. But if money was a non-issue here, and we're talking just theory...
You're going to find that quite a few people prefer the international servers over region locked ones. FFXI simply thrived better in that sort of community and for good reason, it was a way to connect with friend from across the globe, which was the primary reason why FFXI was as successful as it was.
It's stereotyping to assume that players on the other side of language barriers have no interest in playing with people on the other side of said barriers. Many like conversing or just being a part of that larger community.
But if there were, say one server for each region that was region locked? I could see the draw in that for some.
- I just don't see it being feasible economically is all. Why pay to run a server that's only peak active during a specific number of hours? Right now we've got peak times pretty well distributed, which means servers are getting optimum use.
