Its a Japanese game. Why would they work their patch schedule around an American holiday?
If maintenance still happens during Golden Week in japan then whatever. I'm pretty sure they still do maintenance during that time.
I imagine there are many ways people celebrate holidays. For some, I'm sure the entire day will be consumed with celebratory actions. For others, I imagine they will have extra free time between holiday activities. Finally, for some, they might not celebrate at all and just enjoy the day off however they want. So yes, I think the better customer service approach would be to consider major holidays of their subscriber base for scheduled maintenance patches.
It's just unfortunate timing for the US player base. It is what it is. We'll be okay, I promise. I'll probably be spending half of my day away from my PC and console anyway due to it being a holiday.

Wow how entitled. You know how many holidays there are worldwide? SE only has 52 possible dates to do scheduled maintenance so no matter which day you will inconvenience someone.
And the alternative would be to wait another week.
Be grateful the Usa gets all these wonderful promotions europe can only dream of.
I'm sure there are others, but the only American studio game I can think of that can compare to my point would be Blizzard/WOW. And yes, I would advocate it would be better customer service if they didn't do a 24 hour maintenance on a day corresponding to a major holiday in the regions they provide service. To be clear, I'm not saying every holiday, but the big ones, if you are providing a service in a region, would be best to avoid.
