They also don't support M1's which were first released back in 2020. What they did 'support' even then it was only Intel iMacs, none of the other models.
So the reality seems to be that they "did support" (a VERY small selection) of Macs but no longer do. They are however willing to continue selling it to Mac users but remain completely silent about actually supporting the current OS, the current range of Macs and to not even give any info when directly asked through support.
My guess at this point is that they thought they *might* support current Macs at some point, but when in the last official lodestone post (in December last year!) they said "Testing will continue and depending on the results, we will provide another update"... guess they didn't get the results they wanted so no update... not even a word.
Oh, that is of course until this where they tell everyone "If you plan to continue playing FINAL FANTASY XIV in either of these older OSs, please consider updating to their latest versions before the release of Patch 6.15." Which of course totally breaks the official MacOS launcher.
My takeaway is that even internally there's such a severe lack of communication that any Mac customer still keeping their sub going not only has the right to use any of the workarounds, I doubt it would be noticed since the FFXIV team seem not to have even noticed their launcher is broken!
TBH, When I started playing I was genuinely impressed by the open communication and care the devs here are known for, now I feel incredibly stupid for having believed it.
