Need motivation/inspiration to play. What do you like about the game?

Well preface this by saying there's nothing wrong with needing a breather away from the game a bit if it's getting stale.

I love the story. I love tradeskilling. I've been finishing animas I hadn't in the past because I like getting shiny toys. I still find satisfaction in checking off my weekly tomes and getting my new armor. I like customizing glams for each of my classes, so the new plates coming are a Twelvesend. I love the Panda raids (except P2, that one can go rot) and I'm excited to wipe repeatedly on launch day with Myths. I like leveling new classes and seeing how they play differently than my WHM main.

What have you enjoyed in the game so far? That might help us get you excited about certain things or maybe someone's mentioned something that caught your interest that's new that you can try out.

I like farming for mounts and minions. That's what keeps me playing every day, since I started playing some 5 years ago! For example, now is the lull between patches, not much to do, and a lot of people aren't playing just waiting for the next patch. But I decided I wanted to get the mentor roulette mount, the astrope. I needed to do 2.000 mentor roulettes. I farmed for what, 2 and a half monts going as hard as I can, and I'm on track to get the mount today! Only 40 roulettes left, just in time for the patch! I think getting mounts and minions motivates me completely, so I'll farm whatever it is just to get it, because I want to eventually have all mounts and minions in the game! (at least those attainable at the moment, excluding the paid ones).


If you don't like that, just do the basics, like finishing the msq and the side content, like the raid series and trials, stuff like bozja, just so you have seen all the stories and the contents in the game without going out to farm them.



Some people say this isn't an mmo that keeps you playing everyday and there isn't much content to do, but if you're an achiement hunter and collector like me, there is almost endless content! I still have fun and there is still so much content I could do! Like getting the hunt and pvp mounts! I barely done those and I could take many months of content if I decided to tackle those!

The story, for sure.

I've played a few MMOs over the years and one in particular, which I used to consider my 'primary' game, for slightly over a decade. And neither that game, nor any of the others I'd played, offered the experience that FFXIV's MSQ did.

So far as I am concerned, the game hits far more 'right notes' than any other game I'd played - the story was an incredible journey, and often evoked emotions that the stories in the other games I'd played never did.

And this is basically what I've said ever since ARR.

Final Fantasy XIV is like a cheap crappy restaurant. The place is a dump, the service is terrible, the food tastes like cardboard, but the drinks are cheap. But if your in that restaurant with a solid group of friends then you can still have a great time.

If your not with friends then it's a pretty dull experience which seems to be one of the bigger reasons new players don't stick around very long. Because they don't have the social connections to make the game more fun..

If it wasnt for the laughs I have with friends I'd do the story and drop my sub until the next expansion do the story and drop sub again...

One reason I never recommend it to friends. The stories good. But thats about it. Combat is dull shallow button spam gear and rewards are crap.

It's funny how many times I've have a friend drop by for coffee and I'm in the exact same piece of content I was doing 10 years ago...

I like to help people clear content on party finder. It could be extreme fights, regular or savage raids. Past and new content. There's always a lot of people that need some help there, so it gives me stuff to do at mostly all times. Granted, it can be a bit repetitive, doing the same savage raids prog over and over, but it got me to work on my patience skills. Plus, people are usually pretty nice. It's a lot of fun, and I got to meet a lot of people with different backgrounds and visions about the game. In my opinion, it's a rewarding way to spend your time in game. Mentor roulette as well!

I do like crafting too. I've been levelling both gatherers and crafters. Initially, I didn't spend a lot of time on it past 1.0, but the story quests are really enjoyable, and I felt invested enough to try and complete them all. I'm nowhere near finished, but it's a nice thing to work towards to.
