This is a story. Everything exists for the convenience of the writers to tell the story they want to tell, and block off the possibility of events that don't suit the narrative.

I think the time loop makes sense, besides that we shouldn't have told them quite so much even once our secret was out, and I think Venat's memory should have been wiped along with the others. She still would have created Hydaelyn under her own intentions (as we previously assumed she did) and likely remembered everything once she was in the aetherial sea.

As it stands, after everything we told them of their future, the memory wipe was the only way that events could still play out to result in our current reality. Drastically rewriting the timeline is not where the story needed to go.

Based on what we've heard, it's more that everything exists for the convenience of the gameplay designers who want to do and create cool stuff, and the story writers have to come up with a way to shuffle everything around to make a coherent story.

Yeah, that's why I'm saying the memory wipe was a convenience. Because that way events could still play as they did before and the writers wouldn't have to write any additional material.

I disagree with that. I personally think an altered timeline would've kept the story interesting. Just my two cents.

I do have a question, they did state during emergency mode everyone entering is weaker but does that also count for the person who activated the emergency mode aka Hermes?

Because if that was the case, he would be immune to its effects and would be kinda udnerstandable why.

Otherwise I agree, if everyone is powered down EQUALLY, then Emet Selch being to best mage the ancients had should have absolutely destroyed Hermes and that silly fight they had in the end while we were trying to escape was just unrealistic

Hermes was unaffected.

The emergency mode made everything weaker except for Elpis researchers (and other employees, or whatever the proper term is). The point of emergency mode was to reduce the power of everything that might harm the employees, letting the employees resolve the situation.

EDIT: Just checked the dialogue, and the term was "Ktisis scholars and observers". Which Hermes would have been considered part of, since he's in charge of all of Elpis.

I feel like at this point some people are coming at the story itself antagonistically. Like, it's not even a 'these things stand out as not making sense' or 'I'm not sure I agree with the angle here' sometimes, but rather just outright trying to declare that the story is wrong about itself and tearing it down. 'This story is bad because I think Emet-Selch should've been able to explode everyone's heads' isn't really a useful argument.

You've gotta engage with the story as a story. That means recognizing, in this case, that the events of Ktisis happen as they are; that everyone there except for Hermes is weakened (presumably because he has some form of ID badge or something), and so while they can best him, they have to be a little smarter than that. There's no winning anything by just saying 'I think Emet-Selch should have been able to snap his fingers and solve everything'; you have to accept the road the story is going down, and the fences they put up to get everything there. Disagree with the end destination, sure, but don't go 'I think we should have driven through that paddock of cows'.

The fact that Kairos was seemingly capable of targeting places outside of Ktisis Hyperboreia (Universal memory manipulation seems like a...concerning thing for one person to hold authority over) is really making me wonder if it or some similar technology going to end up being a problem in the present day somehow when coupled with them drawing attention to the brainwashing that occurred after Bahamut was unleashed.

It was suggested people forgetting about the legacy players may have been a side effect of Lousoix's magicks that sent them into the future, but forgetting about the post-calamity events entirely seems unusual...

Hermes specified Ktisis Hyperboreia as the target for the memory manipulation, but being able to specify targets at all suggests it's not limited to the facility itself.
