I felt like making a list of things I hated.
Stormblood spoilers.
-There's a few MSQ patch quests involving the wall, that's the only leadup. After HS had an epic leadup Stormblood was sad. They tried to make you connect through Ada but that was about all there was to it.
-Large armies are nowhere to be seen. Galvus' army in 2.0 felt bigger than Zenos' and it was just meant to be a rogue legion. At one point Zenos is just walking down an open road with a few soldiers and you ambush him.
-Adding to this, there's a bunch of off screen fights. You show up to a town and it's like "yeah we liberated here just recently". Stormblood is a load of telling and not showing.
-Empire does not feel like a threat at all, they win like one fight and that's it. Rhalgr's reach gets destroyed early on then the enemy just never returns there again for some reason. That one Roeg guy runs away and keeps coming back and losing.
-Possible plot holes like the timeframes going to and fro from the east.
-Basically 2 rebellion stories in the same expansion.
-Both primals come out of nowhere during MSQ and have nothing to do with anything
-Three areas that look like a desert, Gyr Abania? More like Northeast Thanalan
I originally quit in MSQ it was just boring much of the time.
Didn't really work out for me. Left some parts of the story high and dry and some zones emptier than my stomach after I haven't eaten for 12 hours. Not looking forward to taking my 2nd alt through StB. Particularly 4.2 to 4.5, man was that part of StB drawn out and miserable. But at least SMN's rework will make trudging through 4.1+ palatable. Did not help that StB zones are the most boring things I've had the displeasure of laying my eyes upon. If I wanted to look at barren wastelands I could just walk outside my backdoor and gaze at the empty cornfield without sunglasses on, and that's free.
I have more fun going through ARR than I do StB. Only thing I really liked about StB was the login screen. But StB is really good at one thing; making you appreciate the other expansions.
Stormblood was good, people just didn't vibe with the themes very well as compared to the high fantasy grand story arc of heavensward. Stormblood was a little more down to earth.
While it would have been nice for doma and ala mhigo to not have to share a spotlight, i do understand that the situations in both countries was....identical. Had they told their stories separately, they would have just written the same expansion twice.
It wasn't the worst experience ever but it was far from my favorite expansion. Mainly because the plot was rushed and it really wasn't that engaging with the post launch patches. It was only when they started setting up Shadowbringers that I began enjoying it again.
