my guess is that it's a mix of two or even more separate things;
people are more brazen with their toxicity because they've been getting away with it for a while or even years and have never gotten a warning or a suspension for it (or maybe they did but didn't care and just made a new account)
in addition to that, people projecting their own various feelings, failings and whatnot on a designated target and blaming them for it, usually accompanied by using some made up or blown out of proportion issue to deem said player as problematic and proceeding to witch hunt them, sometimes even with a community's backing or even a group effort (as seen in various RP related crystal drama google docs where this very same thing happens over and over and over again, shame they break the rules if someone would post them and that others have been deleted and/or hidden since they're an interesting read imo)
and on the other hand, people who think every oh so minor 'transgression' they experienced is the result of pure personal hatred by the supposed perpetrator, every word a personal attack even if it was, say, a compliment because they're so insanely paranoid that everyone's out to get them
hell, this kind of person can even be part of the same group if they decide to 'defend themselves' by attacking - or aiming a/their community and friends at the 'bad person' that probably doesn't even know why it's happening
not that I'm saying that the OP or the other thread creators are the latter and that it's way more likely the former, but with the content lull, the pandemic lockdowns still existing in various countries and states and the effects those have on even a healthy person's psyche, it's no surprise to me that 'it's getting worse' this year
I've played since late ARR and have, lets see... 10 people blacklisted. They get on my list for being rude to me or another party member, telling spoilers in chat or disrupting play. Are you sure you're not being thin skinned? "Please don't do mentor roulette if you don't want to deal with synced content with sprouts" makes me wonder about the details of the situation.
Mentors get hate for all kinds of things including valid advice such as "it's best to use PF for extremes", "you get more info by watching a guide" or "please pull more / cast glare / do some aoe". People can be clueless about their lack of knowledge and mistake that for the mentor being bad. Someone gave me attitude because I was kiting a pack I got aggro on after the tank disconnected, apparently I wasn't being nice to the sprout healer by doing that. Lmao.
I blacklisted maaaaany RMT spammers over the last couple of weeks. Why Square Enix cannot do something against them? It is really annoying. And i have clean up the blacklist every day because the RMT spammers are only active some hours a day.
Cheers
There's been a minor increase, but nothing crazy. I see it in the Novice Network usually; Xenophobic mentors butting heads with WoW refugees mostly. There's also been a massive increase in people tackling synced EX's in DF, which the OP cites specifically, and that has also made a lot of mentors salty.
Yah I don't Blacklist bots anymore unless they're sending me /tells constantly... which hasn't been a thing in a long time. I can't even remember when that was happening... end of ARR or during HW, but they would constantly spam tells at ppl. Dozens per hour.
I seldom get /tell spam nowadays, and when I do I just access the submenu from chat log and report RMT.
Major issue with blacklisting bots is that they do eventually get erased... then you have to go through your blacklist and manually remove the deleted entries so they're not taking up a slot.
My BList now has less then ten entries of ppl I'm fine with never interacting with again.
I don't block the bots, since it's a waste of space, but I've blocked about 150-ish run sellers in the PF. I've actually had to keep a notepad list because of them using alts and getting around my blacklist to spam post their run selling groups so I could report people who use the same exact ad.
They really need to make it where you just flat out block an account, so you auto block between their 1 and 40 characters they can have.
I have blocked ONE character in game. Lets just say what was whispered to me was so pornagraphic and vile that I fantasia'd that toon to NOT be a lalafel anymore immediately.
I don't worry about bots. I think in 7 years of playing I have...10...people on my blacklist? I'm not really seeing a jump in toxicity in the game, even with the influx of new players.
