If there was no more PC version I do think the playerbase would take a massive hit and would likely no longer be sustainable at the current development schedule, which would likely cause a significant portion of the console player base to stop playing as well. Now, would it actually die? No. I mean, FF11 is still going after all. Once you have an established MMO you can basically just keep it in maintenance mode for perpetuity with possibly the occasional small update. It won't pull in any new players, but the ones who just can't live without it will stick around.
As for the PC side of things, which is where I play, I don't really care about add-ons at all. I don't use any of them and don't care if others do as long as it doesn't impact my personal experience of the game, and I see little chance that it will given I don't do the hardcore stuff in the game anyway.
Since you can literally buy Endwalker for PS4, I assume you mean "by the end of Endwalker's life cycle." But even then, I seriously doubt it. FFXIV is still an 11 year old game. Unless Sony terminates all online functionality for PS4, I expect this game will still support it. Plus, the PS5 client only just came out a few months ago.
Same here. I try to resist using add-ons or mods as much as possible, because I think the game should stand on its own merits. If players provide the means to fix problems, enhance the UI, or improve quality of life, it makes the developers lazy and they don't bother doing it themselves. Not only that, but when you make requests or suggestions for new features or fixes, you just get shouted down by other players: "Just download the mod, ya idiot!"
The only games I seriously used add-ons for were World of Warcraft, Oblivion, and Skyrim -- and that was because they bloody needed it. Well, also because I'd already completed Skyrim before and the fan content for that game is out of this world. But even so, something as simple as "Hide Headgear" still isn't a feature of the base game! Why not!?
I've seen some of the graphical overlays people use in FFXIV, and they just look weird to me. Occasionally it's kind of nice, but I just feel like I'm not really looking at the real game anymore. Or there's those people who want "immersive" night time, so the visuals are so dark you can't even see anything. Even in well-lit areas, it's so dark you can't make out details. Gross!
It actually is, it's just difficult to find if you don't know where to look. It's on the "Character" screen. The one where you can manage your gear, see your beast tribe rep, see your class levels, etc. Under the character display window, iirc.
EDIT: I'll look for it in the morning but I know I've used it before because I like seeing my character's face.
The majority of the playerbase is PC. Game would not die, but content would slow to crawl and the game's population would stagnant and fall off at a much higher rate. Game would take less of a hit if they ceased console support.
PC playerbase wouldn't quit but a large portion would leave if 3rd party was banned.
But wouldn't it also mean they ban players who use it? How can they ban 3rd party? They'd have to go back on their promise about enable some sort of scan or anti-cheat engine.
Plus the privacy issues.
We had a big banwave in FF11 for a exploit back in the day and it didnt make the pc community to quit.
Doubtful. Consider how long PS3 support was active I'd say it be dropped around 7.0. Especially how hard it's to get a PS5 still and will likely continue into mid-late 2022.
