I'd turn that in another way.
"A good craftman never blames his tools" is not my favorite quote as it's obvious a good craftman will produce better work with better tools.
But if you give better tools to a beginner and lower quality tools to an expert, this last will produce a better work.
Same can be said about gear, dps and mechanic handling.


When it comes to Yoshida wish to add more challenging content with a dumb numbers of players, 48, I'd say it's his worst take so far.
More player means less cohesion and leads to more drama. I can remember 7 other players, not 47 players. We can manage 3 or 7 other players, we can't manage 47 players let's be realistic.

I think this is something that often gets misread or clouded over by overuse of certain "buzz words". But there's a big difference between a lesser skilled but actually trying player. And blatant laziness or the you don't pay my sub mentality type player.

The problem with carrying arises essentially when players don't even try to play at even a basicly competent level and just expects everyone else to carry them.

Again there's a big difference between carrying someone who's actually trying. And carrying someone who isn't.

Most raids originally were much more difficult when they were new.

Labyrinth of the ages was incredibly punishing if you did not do the mechanics correctly.

Rather than raids being too easy, they just sync iLVL way too high for the content. If they sync’d each dungeon to the gear level it drops, it would be much harder.

And I think that’s the entire point. I don’t agree with their decision, but they simply don’t want older content to be hard...which feels like a waste. I get it, but still.. wish there was another way to it. Old school labyrinth behemoth was fun!

At the very least, certain contents in this game are meant for people to "carry" others. When the community at large is not able (or perhaps is refusing) to do that, those contents will get nerfed either via the echo or some other means.

Thankfully, that doesn't seem to happen that often, so I think they've gotten the difficulty tuned decently most of the times.

Shadowbringers alliance raids were insultingly easy so it seems they just decided to keep the difficulty meter turned all the way down. Three alliance raids of striking dummies tbh.

That's a tale as old as time. Happened with everything since the start of ARR. The first couple of days, you will get the most awesome alliance raid parties ever. Everyone eager to learn and share their observations. No one minds any wipes. After that and when the hardcore casuals arrive, you could get rich with all the salt you produce.

He continues pretending 8-man dungeons couldn't be a thing then?

Regardless, I absolutely despise alliance raids. So this is really disappointing to me.

I don't think you can just glitch over the bold text either because he is talking about 24 and 48 man raids, not light party content. If I remember right, in other interview he discussion more difficult 4 player content and that the development team find it limiting in the stuff they can add to it. Basically a "Savage" Dungeon would really just be an increase in monster HP and Stats.

So true but the community doesn't help the matter. Every time I mention adding 8 man dungeon, everyone instantly starts screaming they don't want another Cutscene Dungeon... very annoying. I still think Max level dungeon should be a Light Party and Expert should be a Full Party Dungeon

The fact that you equate "lower[ing] the amount of personal responsibility" and "players who aren't as skilled at battle content" with "carrying" is very telling.

There are countless levels of performance in the game, but you sure wouldn't know it from reading the forums, where everyone is either a perfect execution god who never presses the wrong button in a rotation, or they're a leech who just stays on the ground for an entire fight.

Also, nothing he said has anything to do with adding any other type of content to the game, just that alliance raids will continue to exist.

One of the reasons I love Paglth'an is the tons of enemies that get thrown at you in the first corridor. It feels fun.

But yes, Lunar Bahamut hits like a wet noodle and that is extremely frustrating.
