The problem really does seem to be the development of 16 along with what Covid did to them

When there's another huge project going on at SE, FF XIV seems to suffer a bit. It felt the same way when FF XV's development was in full swing and when they were working on the FF 7 Remake. For a game that literally saved the company they don't give it the support it needs most days.
They've gotta take resources from somewhere to pay for their string of recent embarassments. Balan Wonderworld, Left Alive, Outriders, Marvel's Avengers, Oninaki, Just Cause..
0 dungeons per patch and reused balan wonderworld assets incoming in endwalker.
Out of all of those, Avengers hit them the hardest. They lost millions from that one and took a pretty big PR hit besides.
Yeah, which is why it's a shame that it doesn't get a bigger budget. Instead of trying to put all their eggs in 1249102 baskets, they should put a lot of them (or at least a modest amount of them) in one that has proven to be reliable and go from there.
So far we've Lost, deepdungeons, a whole form of sidestory content know as Hildabrand, We used to get multiple dungeons a patch, multiple PvP updates, new gear, 2 forms of endgame content known as Ultimates, Cut content from the Firmament that allowed People to contribute to it without having to be on gathers/crafters. It may mot seem like much but it feels a lot more empty without it honestly.
I think they're stretching just a bit. As far as the amount of content goes I think Shadowbringers has done pretty well. The biggest issue in my opinion is their focus on "fluff" content like Gpose and Perform, among other things. They have also made some questionable design choices that even a player with half a brain cell could have seen the future ramifications of (Castrum Lacus Litore anyone?). Shadowbringers has been a solid expansion, but has been hamstringed by their own design in some ways. They seemed to have put more of their resources in the story as well, which took away from other things.
No kidding. I saw an article on the Butterfinger thing a few days ago and it opened with "FFXIV sure had a rough launch." Like... that was nearly 11 years ago at this point guys, maybe we can focus on something else now? As for Diadem, meh... it was a thing they tried that didn't work and lasted less than the length of one expansion.. not exactly headline news there.
FFXI produces stable income with almost no overhead.
This thread is proof how spoiled FF14 players are compared to other MMO's and games period. The content release schedule for FF14 is stupid fast. In fact the content they release is so good people actually get mad they do not release it more quick lol
