What was the Japanese reception to Nier crossover?

I mean we bascially have no idea how much it was liked or not because even your opinion is after all just a opinion out of many. But we should not take out the forum completely because it can show a general direction that could possibly hint to how something is received because after all there is a wide varity of players from different countries posting their opinions.

The best would be if they did question the people on this ingame and release that information but SE never uses such a tool...they instead just love to use the numbers of participants to say that it was successfull.

Jus try take on it but it was over too quick. Get like half the quests were removed and nothing used to fill in blanks. We barely got to see the crossover characters and they just up and vanish at the end. I’m still not entirely sure what happened, how it began and we never did get the explanation o demanded in return for helping the dwarf lol none of the themes of Nier were really there, they tease you with hints but it was mostly just about bullying and guilt.

I feel like the first raid is totally random and that they only decided on the story from bunker raid onwards.

As for the turn in quests at the end...I’ve already forgot about them and wasn’t till I wrote this I remembered I haven’t done this weeks (I’ll go do once I finish here) since it’s unusual.

What we got in terms of glam...I’m happy with. My two favs are 2B and Devola/Popola which is handy as i run caster.
Was hoping for a flight suit mount and that grew when they added Gabriel but never happened. Sad times. Especially since the animations and design for them are right there in the raids lol

Overall I can’t help but feel yoko taro wanted to tell a story then got told to add the dwarves. Combined with the reports of “yoko taro wanted to do this but we had to tell him no” of which there are many I can’t help feel he was fairly strung up with it and probably imo off the record not too impressed with this crossover. Something we can only speculate over tho unless he leaves.

Raids themselves were cool to see and squeal over. Bunker probably the easiest and weakest oddly. HP sponges aside.
Love tower. Mechanics are different. Hacking game wish went longer lol
Factory was a good intro but really suffered from the drop you in nature over the story which was basically unlock, talk to dwarf, do raid, wait for 5.3. Lol

Really, I got the opposite impression. There seemed to be far more effort put into writing the dwarves than the alien robot invasion, to the point where I find myself wondering if Yoko Taro really wanted to write a crossover in the first place.

Oh they have metrics they can measure with respect to participation. The fact of the matter is this forum and other are basically filled with people complaining about everything. It's not a metric that is representative of the general population for sure in my humble opinion.

That is a pretty good metric for them. Certainly not someone who posts a thread and states "So the NA reception to the Nier raids seem to be mostly negative" as if that is some sort of fact because that is what they want to believe.

Right, but every MMO does this. "People are doing it, that means it was a success!" That doesn't necessarily make the content fun and enjoyable sometimes, but most developers just care about the numbers. Personally, I thought it was enjoyable enough.

Actually, reddit likely has a far higher number of active participations than this forum does. It speaks volumes the devs have acknowledged on several occasions they read reddit because of its sheer activity. It helps reddit doesn't have the reputation this forum does for lax moderation.

What I've noticed with online discussion is if opinions are significantly one-sided, they often do reflect the general playerbase. We saw that with Eureka given not only did the devs make several changes (to Pagos, especially) but Bozja is essentially Eureka with much of that feedback accounted for. Another example may be Blue Mage, which was reviled at release and only barely started to shake off that stigma. If we don't see a second limited job for Endwalker, it's very telling.

When the overall opinion is more divisive or split, then it's less likely the online community represents a majority opinion either way.

I didn't even bother with it because I just felt like it wasn't a good fit into FFXIV. Personally I think they should have used Drakengard series or something new if they wanted Yoko Taro to direct it.

It's maybe the only raids 24 which really got complaints (if we forget difficulty complaints sometimes for Mhach and Ivalice raids).
So there is chance that Nier is the least prefered raid 24 overall.

For me personally, the raids were fine, however, the theme itself was the issue. For me, and I am sure many others, it just didn't fit FF. It was too disjointed from the rest of the world. At least with CT/VA/Ivalice, the stories fit the world around them, they fit the world of Hydelaen. Nier? It just felt separate. It didn't add anything to the lore of the First.

Off the cuff, they could have done something original and have a lose connection with Eden. With the Eden raids, you are out to restore the Empty, however, this side story could be noticing anomalies, that could prevent the area from being restored, even long after the world had been restored. Maybe the Crystal Tower had an impact in some area when it suddenly appeared etc. Just something that ties it together with the First more strongly.

That is a good metric for some kinds of content, like perhaps firmament which is just one of many paths to a goal, but not so much for something like the 24 man raids, where not only do they have gear that doesn't require a lot of effort that is just under the top ilvl, which is great for alt jobs, but it also has coins to upgrade tome gear and other things like hairstyles that are unavailable elsewhere. I will do content begrudgingly to get drops I need even if I do not like the content, it is like that in all player bases in all games. Look how many ppl were in Eureka every day that would do nothing but complain about how bad it was, yet they wanted a relic so they dealt with it. They relied on actual feedback to change Eureka as it went and used that for Bozja as well. Because participation numbers are not a good measure for success.

Participation is the least accurate measurement of enjoyment a gaming company could use. You always want actual feedback. Which is also why its important to provide positive feedback, which you see here as well, it's just more forgettable to the average reader.

And I was asking about the Japanese reception and not being negative at all, you are the one who read it as such and decided to complain about how I asked my question. So, tell me, what were you saying about ppl coming on here and complaining about everything again?
