Revelations from Save the Queen

I'm glad we finally got it, but the Relic (Resistance) Weapon questline felt incredibly truncated at the moment.

Much like the changes I've heard about in VIIR, I'm willing to forgive some things (Mikoto revealed to have the Echo - while this was never stated in Return to Ivalice as a Student of Baldesion I suppose it makes sense), others less so (her Echo lets her see the future rather than the past). Dates don't bother me, but playing hard and fast with the rules of the setting is something I very much disagree with.

Midas being tempered isn't a huge shock; it was implied way back when. This just makes it explicit.

Surprise trial is against a memory of Varis back during his days as High Legatus. EX only. Whoo.

No grind part to keep people occupied until VIIR hits internationally. Ahh, how... disappointing? Relieving? Not sure.

So about Gerolt...

this entire time Gerolt can pay off all his debt or never had any debt to begin with but he keeps spending all his earnings on drinking and helps Rowena willingly. Not to mention he is skilled enough to be very rich to a point he can be a member of the syndicate chairs but refuse to take up on that offer.

Not only that but it seems he is still madly in love with Rowena to a point he really wants to marry her.

As for if Rowena still loves him as much as he still loves her, that maybe up to speculation since it maybe one of those love/hate relationships they have that they are crazy for each other but they also drive each other crazy as well.

also about the new Resistence weapons...

I am curious how they will progress later. Step 1 is the most simple step compared to the past Relic weapons from 2.0, 3.0, and 4.0 by having us just get it instantly. It is a nice way to get players a free up to current content weapon but I am questioning how will we be upgrading this over time.

A part of me feels like it maybe just link to the Resistance Storyline and as we progress in the storyline we will end up finding parts to add on to the weapon until we finally obtain the final piece for the Final Form of the Resistence weapon. After all the weapon we get is built using the design from the memories we obtained from Cid so who knows how this storyline will progress since the goal is to recreate the Legendary Resistance Weapon (or atleast the one we are using) and the original Gunblade of Legends I am just going to call "Save the Queen" as i am assuming that is the name of the legendary gunblade they are trying to restore.

Why's Midas being tempered treated like such a big revelation when it's been known since Praetorium? Even if we disbelieved Gaius, surely Coils would have made it obvious?

Also not wholly fond of the fact that the Echo can now apparently see the future outside of the whole "attuning to the vagaries of the soul to sense their next movement" or whatever was going on before. Probably fanon, that. Or I'm thinking of the Resonance.

Looking over Anonymoose's post, it seems like they're still riding Ivalice nostalgia for all it's worth. Wish I could say that was surprising.

I'm not sure why they even made Mikoto's future sight a thing when she claims it's limited to a point of being of little practical benefit (Having no control over when it happens, being unable to alter foreseen events, and not being able to forsee immediate danger to herself or others).

The echo power to see the future was shown by Fordola back in 4.0 since she had a Copy version of the Echo (aka Resonant) which replicated all echoes powers.

Though she has more control over that power compared to our WoL who still only has encounters randomly though our WoL ability to "see" hit box maybe the ingame version of such powers which implies WoL has the ability to predict a "hit box" of a attack before it happens due to the Echo.

As for Cid's father being already tempered,

it is more that he has been tempered for a long time rather than being just tempered. No one really knew if the tempering happened recently during the moment the explosion happened or if he was always tempered from the beginning when he started Meteor project. This revelation just shows that Cid's father has always been tempered maybe long before he even suggested the Meteor project back when he was only testing ideals for it since he was the only one exposed to the Meteor until the project became approved.

The Meteor project may have always been Bahamut's influence over Cid's father which is probably why he suppressed the memory because he could not bare the thought that his father has been long dead mentally even before Meteor Project happened and it was his own father who attempted to kill him.

The quest is more about catharsis for Cid than revealing anything new. He's blamed himself forever for what happened at Bozja; this just clears his conscience by revealing that Midas was explicitly tempered, making any attempt to dissuade him from using Meteor pointless.

It's been said before that the Echo manifests differently in individuals; the most common use (our own) is just the ability to glimpse into the memories of others. Krile hasn't demonstrated this ability, and her Echo is centered around the ability to speak to beasts. As a Student of Baldesion it's not unreasonable Mikoto would have the Echo (though I don't recall her being identified as such back in Return to Ivalice, just a Sharlayan), and given the "it does various things" clause they tagged the Echo with at the beginning I suppose this is all possible, but it still feels like a bit of a stretch. (And yes, limited combat precognition was limited to Resonance before - and only Fordola is shown to actually have that ability.)

And of course they're going to get as much Ivalice nostalgia out of things they can. The developers themselves are fans of it, a large chunk of the player base are fans of it, and they have Yasumi Matsuno (Ivalice's creator) back in the writer's seat for this questline. I'm... a bit disappointed by this, but not at all surprised anymore.

Unless it becomes pertinent later, I'm just operating under the assumption it was because the writer didn't know how else to advance the story except a deus ex machina like that. It's not outside the realm of possibility, but it does take retcons, and I'm not a fan of that.

I wonder where Bozja is, beyond the vague "it's in Ilsabard." If Gabranth controls it and the Bozjan resistance is part of the Eastern Alliance, I guess it's pretty much right on the Othardian border.

I do find it rather odd that the music in Gangos, that mosaic at the end of the questline, and the possibility of

Asura as a Primal

all evoke kind of an Indian vibe - and yet Hrothgar have Slavic names.

Consider it more akin to an explanation on how Alexander could see the timelines. It's taking a possibility on how the current events may run and tells her "This is probably going to happen based on how you and others are going to react to things." Meaning a logical look at what is coming based on known variables on how individuals may react to specific stimuli via events.

You know this event about Cid's father also shows how reasoning with the Ascians has been rather pointless since they are so fixed on Zodiark's will.

There is no reasoning with them at this point because the Will of Zodiark is all they will ever focus on.

Bahamut using Cid's father and how Zodiark is using the Ascians can be compared to how WoL and the Scions are dealing with Elidibus.

No matter how much we want or try to talk him out of doing what he is doing and there maybe a better way without sacrificing the current world, it will all be ignored because it is by Zodiark's will that he is freed through Calamities since it also benefits Zodiark by weakening Hydealyn.

it was the same for those who summon Hydealyn as they told the Ascians that summon Zodiark that Zodiark was only a short term solution and the First Calamity that almost destroyed the world will return again if something is not done to prepare for it this time but their warning were all ignored because Zodiark's Will demands them to think it is all ok and they only need Zodiark which is why they turn to Hydealyn to create a world that will at least prepare for the return of the First Calamity.

Also, it seems the Relic Armor this time is tied into Extreme mode of the Resistance Story trial stages. Guess the armor set and upgrading it will be focus for the hardcore player base.

I wonder how they are going to do this in the next 5.x5 patches. We know that we are getting new field content in the next stage alongside a new public dungeon (5.35), and that is probably going to be the story going forward... But then they brought in the Dramaturge with an interface similar to Kugane Minstrel and Minstrelling Wanderer (in that of telling a story), so they can't just have decided to use him to unlock a single trial in that manner... right?
