Even with all the downtime I don't see this as an issue. Pressing 1 a lot while adding a 2 every 30 seconds is no different when you add pressing 3 from time to time.

it does matter when its boring to simply pressing 1 all the time especially since 2 can be delayed or even skipped.
pressing 2 every 30 seconds and pressing 1 during that entire time is not fun however pressing 1 and occasionally pressing 3 or 4 until u press 2 again break that monotone and boring 1 button pressing u do most of the fight.
take white mage for example:
lets number the skills:
1-glare , 2- dia
pressing 1 all the time and occasional 2 is simple and repeatable with sometimes u can forget 2 and just simply press 1 the entire rune unless if your party needs healing and lets take the scenario that it doesn't so you are stuck pressing 1 all the time repeatedly and imagine its a long run for 15+ min.
however u have assize lets name it 3 and then u have misery which is 4.
now suddenly white mage is fun in his downtime cause now u do sometimes 3 or even 4 every 1 out of 3 times u spam 1 in 30 sec before casting 2 which is what missing for the other healers, something that will break that 1 button spam every once in a while.
My hope is that with the advent of when 6.0 comes out SE realizes that since they took out so many DPS tools that they gradually add in more or bring in the old ones and refine them.
I'd absolutely say if the game continues with healers only having two real dps buttons (sans WHM and Misery) that it would cause more and more people to split. However if we get new high costing dps spells to throw into the mix the healers f not having anything to do now have to decide to dps which in turn brings more cognitive thinking for heals. "Do I spend more on this dps spell or do I focus on my heal?" "Do I save this OGCD for damage or hold on for the next aoe?"
SCH's had a huge moment of relief when Energy Drain came back allowing them to have some options with that, while AST going into 5.0 lost that with Lord and Queen and still hasn't received an option like it.
That's what I am thinking as well after returning playing AST in 5.1 for a mere two days.
This is kinda my pet peeve comment on this topic.
Adding a 3 is not just adding a single button in most cases. Something as benign as a second dot on a different timer to the first one might look like a 3 to a layman who just applies both together, but to anyone who is being optimized and staggering their dots properly it's a whole new timer to keep track of, the more you have the harder it gets. When you take a class like SCH that lost almost half of the timers they had to keep track of this expansion, it's a crazy reduction in gameplay.
I do think people underestimate how much a 2nd DoT makes a difference. Most oGCDs in the game are on a 30/60/90 second cooldown. Having DoTs that share the selfsame interval considerably slows down the gameplay, in my opinion. It feels very "set and forget," and it was something that bothered me about SB AST. I think the excuse for the simplicity of their "rotation" was for the sake of the cards, so I honestly didn't expect SE to give the same treatment to the other healers.
OP if you're just pressing one button while playing a healer, you're doing it wrong. All healers have a number of skills to use that are more than just "heal skill". As AST, I can be clicking 7-10 times on different things in a string of skills in a single burst. And I know SCH has more than just Succor or something. Maybe take some time to learn your skills more and take an active role in the duty you're in instead of just using Physick or spamming Ruin/Broil.
