The loss of Shield Swipe

Honestly i dont know how they are going to change a lot of the quests with all the deleted skills. They play a role in so many of the quest lines i dont know how they will ret con them.

How did they handle the simple marauder quests that requires you to use brutal swing on rocks as the actual quest objective since they deleted it for example. Has anyone done the old tank quests lately?

how will the lvl 35 DRK jobquest that rewards you with darkside upon completion be adjusted? you get your darkside skills at 30 and 40 in 5.0 so...

Yeah there are tons of examples since they are quest rewards, or directly tied to the quests story/lore. I was just curious about brutal swing because it might give a hint of how they addressed that issue in the past and probably do something similar when expac drops for the mountain of quest issues that will pop up

Shield Swipe has been a fun little thing to hit sometimes.

But we have plenty of other things in our kit. Why do we have to nitpick every little thing that isn't there anymore and complain about it? :confused:

I miss the old Reprisal on DRK as well, even if only for the ability to perform some sort of active proc based counterattack on a tank. It makes it feel like you're actually trading blows with the boss.

That being said, there's been a move over the past two expansions away from moves that preferentially benefit you when you're actively tanking. The progressive nerfs to Blood Price and its eventual removal are another example of this. The one exception to this rule, of course, is Vengeance.

What's weird about PLD's design is that it's the only job in the game with a shield, yet it barely even uses it
IMO it would have been better to instead cut Spirits Within and port its effect over to Shield Swipe.

They replaced the skill you had to use. Instead of Brutal Swing, you use Skull Sunder. (I haven't done it since ARR, but looked it up on Garland Tools)

Which, obviously, won't work for actual dialogue references for certain skills:

Such as MCH's job quests talking about Reloading their special Ammo to enhance their attacks.

AST talking about literally the entire basis of the job and the different cards and the constellations that they represent and their meaning across basically all of their 30-60 quests and then being reprised again in the level 60-70 quests where you teach the Geomancer about them too...

I dislike the removal of almost all low level oGCDs. It makes jobs too top heavy at high levels and barebones at low levels. To the point where all the little oGCDs classes and jobs get pre 50 are gone and it's just a boring 1-2-3 rotation. Leg Sweep, Mercy Stroke, Misery's Emd, Steel Peeks, Howling Fist,

I was really hoping they would double down on 'rewarding you' for tanking/mitigating damage with actions like shield swipe, blood price, TBN, etc that have additional benefits and/or refunds. Things that reinforce "reducing damage is good" with tangible feedback. So much for that. Also so much for doubling down on the HP theme of war as a major part of their kit. Really anything that binds defense and offense together to be mutually beneficial is being slowly removed from the game.

I too will miss shield swipe and other similar actions.

• It's used for Sheltron, which I use all of the time for tank busters and MP regen.
• It's used for Bulwark, which is useful for big pulls but will be merged into Sheltron.
• It's used for Passage of Arms, to look really good during phase transitions.
• It's used for Shield Bash, if you want to save yourself in low level content by stunning everything.
• Shield Bash is great in PvP.
• It's used for Shield Swipe until 5.0.
• You randomly block attacks without noticing.
