Considering that we haven't even seen the roadmap for BLU, you seem to know an awful lot about how the future of the content is going to pan out. You don't know that BLU can't participate in whatever the next limited endgame is, nor do you know how the systems will be evolved based on feedback before BST is even announced

We also don't know if anything will change in the future either.

We can however, extrapolate based on what we currently can see.

To which, we have Masked Carnivale, which is designed in a way that only BLU can really play that content. As it is focused around having multiple element and damage type attacks as well as some very specific skills (Such as a no CD silence, a Shukuchi style mobility skill with no CD, a ridonkulous 90% damage reduction skill, a skill that allows the user to reposition enemies with no CD and a skill with retaliation damage)

So, not only does this content not seem as if it can be used by any other class, it also doesn't suggest that there was any long term plan in regards to opening up its availability to alternate Limited Jobs (Well, partly because if you open up content between multiple Limited Jobs, which, you have to assume would be unique classes rather than copy/paste designs onto "Quirky" job titles, you'd also inadvertently also dismantle part of the reason for restricting this content to Limited Jobs only. I.e. If another Limited Job could end up participating in Masked Carnivale... Why couldn't NIN or BRD or BLM?)

Of course, this is subject to change and we'll see how the 5.x changes to BLU pan out and if they give an indication of a reasonable road map for Limited Jobs. However, with current facts, it does not look likely that anything of any substance or worth will be coming under the "Limited Job" brand.

I'm not playing XIV, I only come on maybe once a year or two for a few weeks to see what has changed.

Jobs do change from FF to FF, but there's usually core aspects that a Job will retain. For example, DRG jumps and lances (not the wyvern from xi) are pretty core to DRG. Summoning actual summons are pretty core to SMN don't you think? :/

Me too, which is why I made this thread. I really want to enjoy this game, but no matter how hard I try it never sticks because the Jobs feel empty to me; they game kind of feels soul-less, and one of the biggest causes of that soul-less feeling for me is the lack of a Job to identify with.

Exactly, the class mechanics itself wouldn't even need to be changed, right? Although I don't play SMN so I am not sure about specifics, from what I gather you could just change the animations/skins/graphics whatever to be a summon instead of whatever spell your character is casting.

Is that OP? Why? They already added Bahamut so how could adding Garuda be OP? It's just a friggin skin to make SMN feel like SMN. Is the summon too fat and annoying you? can't you make it mini or whatever? I think the main reason they don't do it is laziness honestly.

Sad coming from the company that rebuilt the whole frickin game, so I want to hear NO excuses about how " normal SMN couldn't work in xiv, normal BLU can't work here." SE took the literal WORST MMO on the friggin planet ever produced (1.0) and turned it into an incredibly successful triple-A MMO.

If they did all that, adding a few summons and making BLU unlimited etc doesn't seem like a stretch to me. They are lazy IMO.

Here, even as someone who hasn't played BLU much I can throw out an easy fix: Make OP stuff like Death not work on bosses and hard stuff (oh wait it's already like that) and limit BLUs access to heals/tank abilities since it would be queing up as a ranged DPS. It could still have a couple crappy heals like MNK has that self heal thing, but it wouldn't be able to actually heal that well.

OMG AMAZING I solved it. It might not be the best solution, no, because I don't play enough to make a better one, but it proves it CAN be done, they just are too lazy.

I personally thought SMN wasn't far off the mark in HW. SB got closer but SE ripped the opportunity to expand on what players did in HW out from under themselves despite thematically giving people what they wanted. I want the HW flow restored, since the current Bahamut phase is clearly a natural extension of how people used DWT back then. Then they can use the Shadowbringers levels to add more of what SMN is missing: Pet synergy.

That said BLU...could be fixed. Honestly keep hammering on the other BLU threads. I think SE will learn quickly that it really should have been a normal job from the get go. Minus the learn mechanic.

I personally don't like pets or how they work myself. I like what they do with bahamut tho. Also, for the ogcd primal theme, you just reduce the CD on enkindle and roll it into bahamuts enkindle imo.


To the topic, since the class is so hyped up and he seems to have a "true to class design" mindset BST will probably be limited. They will want more classes to fit in the "limited" aspect and "content" with BLU since, it's possible, they may keep BLU as it is and never really make it a full class. We can hope, and it wouldn't be too hard and people would LOVE a full class blue, but who knows. He'd have to change his mind in the next few months. Let's them also get more use out of previous expansions worth of content and reused assets since the limited job classes may never be the max level of that xpac.

SMN doesn't feel and feel like summoner at all, I was playing FFXI for the first time a few months ago and I met this tarutaru well was helping me and explaining how to do a skillchain / magic burst.

We was outside of Mharua and was kind enough to show me all the Advatars ( primals) and summons he had so far.

He showed me Cat sith, Titan , Garuda, ifrit, Ramuh, Diablos, Shiva, carbuncle, Fenrir..I think Alexander?

I was in amazement, and it wasn't that Egi crap. It was actually summons! Huge, awesome beats you can control. When I look at FFXIV, i don't feel like it's a summoner. But a DoT mage with a....low poly summon. It would be nice to get more primals you can obtain.

Lvl 74DNC/WAR on the asura server and excited to play GEO as it's a true support job.

I'd much rather they fix SMN before they even think about adding Beastmaster, and if it takes adding Beastmaster as a limited job to accomplish that, so be it.

Limited jobs don't work atm because we only have BLU and it only has one thing to do, the Masked Carnivale. Limited jobs could be salvaged by investing some more content in them, which would happen if they added more jobs, like beastmaster.

While I sympathize with the sentiments of this thread, I also believe it to be a bit premature. For all we know, this Limited Job experiment has resulted in an absolute flop. It wouldn't surprise me to see the feature ending with Blue Mage. At some point in the future, I could see Squenix converting BLU to a full job and never looking back to the Limited Job option. I think this is the course of action many players would prefer -- though I don't have any hard data to back this up (it's mostly based on the vocal minority of the forums). I think Beast Master, if ever implemented, would result in a full job. If I recall, the reasoning behind the Blue Mage being a limited job was due to the nature of its combat abilities.
