I'd be more excited if they open up Ishgard, Ala Mihgo, or Sharlayan. Especially Sharlayan, since as far as I'm aware, theres only a handful of npcs in the game who mention it.
Also Ala Mihgo could easily be the "Empire City" you visit, as it is tied pretty heavily into the story, and seems like any future story content missions could have you go there to liberate it.
I don't like the idea of two sides it cut down the community i dislike it in WoW and many other MMO. Top of that Yoshi-p said they never allow open dual so it's pointless. PVP would be somewhat like ffxi and that fine it's in there own area away from other who don't like the idea of pvp. I myself would try pvp one in a while but i never really took pvp serious in MMO.
no faction pvp crap please, faction pvp always end up as failure
Good PvP and PvE can be done, just a matter of how. The best way I've seen PvP and PvE balanced is separately. They have two teams and they have the class/abilities function differently depending of the PvP or PvE setting.
For example, in PvE they have THM with high mana costs and damage, but in PvP they made the casting times a little shorter but do less damage. Makes it so a PvE ability adjustment not affect the PvP version and vice verse. That is just one rough example, but I've seen other MMOs and non-MMOs balance the two separately for good results. A good example is Star Craft II. Certain units are not available for multi-player and the damage and defense of units are adjusted as well.
I hope and can't wait for a well implemented PvP system in FF14, because an additional to pass my time in a game is never a bad thing.
As for the world, I believe Yoshi said he as going away from the open world setup for FF14. I foresee lots of zones and areas to explore with this.
The Grand companies are not peaceful with each other. They are just working together because they the Empire is a bigger threat. It is said a few times, that the companies fear an attack from another company the moment that the Empire is handled.
There is no such thing as good PvP.
PvP goes like this:
Player A is higher level and stronger than Player B; Player A wins.
Player B calls a friend, Player C, who is higher level and stronger than Player A; Player C wins.
Player A calls a friend, Player D, who is higher level and stronger than Player C; Player D wins.
Rinse, lather, repeat.
YAWN
Frankly, I'd rather see the devs focus on something more worthwhile and entertaining than adding in such a ridiculous thing. But I also know, for some odd reason, some people actually like this kind of gameplay so I hope eventually some sort of PvP ends up in game for them. I have a feeling you can look to XI for the kind of PvP you can expect here though. It may not be what you think.
