That being said, a 1080ti is plenty for 1440p on current gen games. 2000 series would be overkill. Going less than the 1080ti... is a bit borderline. Research specific benchmarks for the game and screen resolution you want on the card you're considering. That will tell you if it's 'enough'.

980ti runs at 1440p on max settings for me with no issues.

A 1080Ti is great. With my 1440p ultrawide and my I5820k overclocked to 4 GHz, I can run it on full settings with HBAO+ Quality and still get 65-80 fps. If I want more FPS, I can drop down to HBAO+ Standard or even Strong and get 80-95 and it runs smooth on both settings.

One question, are you running Discord? I literally just uninstalled it from my PC yesterday when I was noticing stuttering in both my graphics and popping/stuttering in my new sound card. As soon as that was gone, my framerate and sound issues went away.

My 1070 hits 60 fps at 3440x1440 ultra wide in cities.
I turn it to standard in 8 man to avoid any frame drop.

Best bang for you buck right now is a 1070 ti.

I have myself i5 8600k and pny gtx 1070 FE and I have average fps 66 with 1440p on maxed settings. If you want 75hz on maxed settings I would recommend buying 1070 ti for this game. Some games demand more like in monster hunter world my fps is only like 30 with maxed settings 1440p. 1080p resolution is way more safe choice if you wanna play every game with 60+ fps. 1440p need like twice better performance from your computer. But ofcourse you can always drop graphical settings, if it is needed.
