Gamers: "wtf stop releasing such small single player only games, we want huge environments and stories that last forever!"
Final Fantasy: "Boom, heres a new MMO packed with content"
Gamers: "whoa whoa wtf is with all these quests bro! who wants to do all that?"

When you get to the 60-70 Stormblood crafting/gathering quests it gets a lot better thankfully. All of the mats needed to complete those quests are provided to you. They also stepped up their game for the story line for these quests. I actually quite enjoyed most of them.
I think the problem is being a returning player. The levels between 1 to 50 can be breezed through with leves and a crafter buddy. Even without such you can buy most things/or leve items off the MB rather cheaply. That makes the job quests feel a bit like a chore since you already are way pass that level but you need to do the job quests to get certain skills later on.
