I forget there a people who love "EVERYONE DIES" story elements.
The Warrior of Light already has PTSD and some serious soul fracturing going on, if they get pushed any further they will pretty convincingly either quit or commit suicide.
We almost never get to save anything important to the Warrior of Light as a person.
Minfillia
Ysayle
Haurchefaunt
Papalymo
The entire group in the Waking Sands post Titan
The list pretty much doesn't end.. so why exactly do we need to have any more soul crushing failures to save people breaking our characters any more than they already are
I can't even watch my friends drink out of cups
Leave me alone.
I would hazard that in reality, after 2.55 we werent supposed to get HW. Yes, we would go to ishgard and what not, but the plot wouldve probably revolved around the happenings in Uldah for a fair bit and not so much about the War of the Dragons.
One of a few things though mustve occured:
-A limitation in the games engine/architecture would prevent a very crucial story element from being told, making it unfeasable.
-There was to much plot going on and they couldnt fit it reasonably in the xpac, so they opted to dumb down 2.55 ending to a few wrap up quests and then dive into Ishgard
-The storyline they would want to tell would create an issue with the player itself. As an example, if I was lvl 50 moving into HW, and I couldnt return to Uldah cause of a Civil War or some plot device, I wouldnt be able to not only interact with lower lvl players who havent completed that part of the MSQ, nor would I be able to effectively interact with Job NPCs like Thaumaturge, Monk, or PLD (as a few examples). Not without moving them to another location. And if I swapped jobs, would I then be able ot enter the city again?
SE is, IMO, fairly decent about keeping stories fairly consistent. After 2.55, it just seemed like they rushed it, which seemed out of character for SE. So Im imagining that yeah, something made them drastically change course at some time in the development, after they were already locked in on the story ARR.
