Future expansions

So, I was thinking it would be a nice change of pace if we, the warrior of light, ultimately failed their objective at the end of an expansion. Something like the next expansion having the three city states leveled from a Garlean invasion, and the warrior of light fleeing from Eorza for their life.


Oh, and playable moogles.

2.55 did... but they ruined it by making most events having been pointless. This whole, x person is dead.... wait no they aren't, is very tired.

To be fair though that was kinda rug swept and never brought up again outside of a handful of instances, much like the end of the 2.55 storyline. SE has a terrible time of keeping legitimate stakes and making traumatic events actually stick. See the Ifrit tempering and subsequent mass executions that were also rug swept and then completely written out of lore for as much affect as it had on the Scions in 4.0-4.1.

Maybe add new story where can pick to be ether the warrior of light or warrior of darkness.

I feel like their problem is that they're trying to set up a story for the next expansion, but somewhere along the way they're forced to backpedal on it. The end of ARR is such a shining example on it, everything was retconned save for the loss of Raubahn's arm and even then we're all waiting for Cid to give him a magitek replacement. And even that conclusion was condensed to, what, barely a minor patch?

I'll raise you one though, when they don't ignore those things, they contradict them. When you run the Warring Triad storyline, Y'shtola says that you joined the Scions fully aware of the need to murder tempered individuals and that you never shied away from the dirty jobs. When in actuality you didn't know about it until there was a long waiting line for the gallows, and the only time the WoL themselves partook in the killing of tempered individuals was in battle and mostly as self-defense.

I'm not sure if it's because it's writers changing or just it being so long since it happened, but either way, SE isn't big on keeping up with its own stories, it seems

I can't stress enough how much I loved the 2.55 and I was looking forward to maybe a civil war, maybe sneaking into Ul'dah... heck, I wish Teledji became a sultan or something and Nanamo did survive but we had to get antidote and dethrone him and help her reclaim her position... anything but - oh she was just asleep, nevermind back to Ishgard.

I get that Ishgard was the center of the next expansion but you can't build so much momentum only to have it resolved in most underwhelming way possible. Now whatever tension rises in future MSQ, I just can't feel as invested knowing it will eventually be swept under the rug to make room for whatever is next ... just like Papalymo's sacrifice and Lyse' reveal. The transition between story points is really poor at times and it grinds my gears cause it could have been so much better.
