Hearing that you're not alone, it's not 'just you' or 'all in your head' helps, too.
I understand your sentiments, but this is more of a social space that encourages positivity. The option is there to vent, but this is more of a spot where folks can gather and talk without feeling the pressure of anxiety and depression. And of course, we encourage anybody who suffer from this to get mental health. But sometimes, folks just need a relaxing place to just talk and hang out.
tfw this didn’t generate a fraction of the kerfluffle that the gay discord advertisement did
:thonking:
Let me pull up a couple of sections for you. First, from just below the usual "Welcome to the server!" shpeel.
Secondly, from our rules:Quote:
This discord is meant for Eorzeans that wish for a social and “open space” to discuss mental health and other mental health awareness issues. However, this community is not a substitute for professional mental health services. The administrators and community members present are not considered mental health professionals, merely individuals that wish to extend an open invitation for discussion. If you feel like you need to seek professional help, please do so, as this community is not equipped to provide the professional services that may further assist you with whatever may be troubling you.
We've already looked at these issues and put measures into place to counteract them. Don't worry, we got this all covered!Quote:
Keep the atmosphere positive. We understand people will have bad days. But if you are considered a continuously negative influence on the Discord you risk removal, in the interests of keeping the server positive.
Recently we've been talking about consoles, gaming peripherals, and the like.
As someone who thought they were completely alone with these exact thoughts, I have to agree. I have found it much easier to cope and seek help knowing that the things I think and feel are not just something exclusive to me—this doesn’t make me feel like some sort of horrible plague on society. Just knowing that others are in the same boat as you—and doing all they can to get better and stay positive, regardless of what the voices in their heads are screaming at them—helps reduce the stigma surrounding anxiety and depression.
The chat thus far has been overwhelmingly positive and supportive. I’m proud to be part of such a thing, and I hope it remains as such for as long as the server is around! If it can help even just one person, then I feel like it’s worth it (hopefully, it will help more than just one, though!).
@Paladinleeds
what would constitute being called a negative influence on the group? I've seen lots of groups like this turn into pity parties or cliques that would discourage new or old members from voicing their thoughts for fear of going against any collective and losing contact with their tenuous support.
I suffer from depression myself and would be interested in this discord but like I said I have experienced bad versions of this as well even if they started out good
Consistent conversation that provides no positive interaction. For example encouraging or threats of self-harm can be seen as that. However simply having a bad day (or even a bad few days), and needing to vent, would not get you banned. Regarding that, if we felt there was a problem, we would approach you first to see what was going on before removing you. It might be that we just recommend ringing up a crisis line, etc. Think of it as more aimed at those who just want to sabotage the group, not someone who is genuinely suffering (like yourself). We will do what we can to not have any "false positive" bans.
That's actually reassuring to hear. Part of my apprehension is the fact that it's being so publicly advertised which is silly I know. But you know how people see a chance to hop into an unsuspecting crowd and do stupid crap.
I always feel like I shouldn't go into groups like this because it's like "what can I contribute other than just sit in the corner quietly" lol
Modded a few Discords in the past, even helped run a few. As well as moderating for a few female streamers. I'm extremely well versed in that!
If all you want to do is sit in the corner quietly and read what others have to say, that's perfectly fine by us. You're not being a negative influence, just being quiet. So long as you respect the rules, we will wait for you to come out of your shell in your own time. Don't worry about it. :)Quote:

Booted one of those this morning. Unfortunately they exist, but it's been pretty friendly overall.
Hey, the corner is nice. That's all I do at parties sometimes. :DQuote:

There's no need to talk. If you just want to pop in and see whats going on quietly, that's cool.
