Yoshida once said he liked the area that it needed to be reworked and that it would probably be the place of a dungeon.
Don't worry about the dragons not showing up they will...and it's definitely into 2.0 as well. They play a huge roll.

Well we know the Garlean Empire is at war with the Primals. We can assume that fifteen years ago (thats when the opening cutscene takes place correct?) they had actually managed to capture them all and were transporting them when big dragon guy (I like to think its Bahamut) freed them, killing (or sealing or whatever) himself in the process.
Seem's pretty self-explanatory. In all likelihood it will still be there after 2.0 (maybe the events of the 7th Umbral Era will even wake him up?) So we can worry about that plot-line when we get to it. I doubt they would just ignore it forever.
Very exciting stuff guys :)
Dragons and FF are almost synonymous~!
Our future is wealthy. Let our hopes be so as well!
I assume that the dragons they fight are not of that size lol.
I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but Mor Dhona won't be going away in 2.0 (to my knowledge.) It could be part of the bigger storyline, and thus more important later on?
Edit: Kind of what I was going for. ^-^ I'd talk about speculation on the story, but I don't want to talk about potential spoilers for anyone reading. lol
