I've seen people coupling SAM with the rest of the melee, but the cast time, even if you're not constantly doing Iaijutsu, is something that sets them apart from the rest. In fact, it may, and will, screw a rotation if you have to move out of an AoE.
Melee wise Sam is probably up there. If you try and hold a few kenki for kyoten and gyoten when needed you can be quite agile indeed.
Also has a small perk in that kyoten triggers enhanced enpi which triples the power of your ranged attack to 300 potency.
Bit of a mixed blessing in that it breaks combos but at the same time has a 15 second duration so gives you more than enough time to gyoten back in to the boss finish your combo. And toss out that 300 potency enpi before starting the next combo.. kyotenand gyoten are both 100p ogcds so that little combo is effectively a nice 500 potency in a single gcd and 10 kenki cost.
