[FFXI: Tactics]
...I'd buy that.
Probably, but as I refuse to pay regularly for FFXI since the addition of abyssea and level cap increases, I don't think I can even post there right now. I can't remember if I'm paying for it right now or not... I hope not.
Regardless, just because a large portion of us DO want an FFXI-2 does not mean we don't want a fresh, new experience. We just want the old playing style that we can really sink our teeth into and chip away at. It can have less to do with the FFXI storyline than FFXIV does, I don't care. I really want a game that has...
-Steep requirements for access into end-game areas (End of mission lines, etc)
-Time sinks (Yes, I know they aren't fun at the time, but they are hugely effective at keeping you in the game, wether you're doing them at the moment or you've finished... You come back to what you've put so much time into)
-Horizontal character progression so time sink rewards are lasting, and aren't thrown away with a level cap rise
-A much slower leveling process to give value to a broader range of items and the content that rewards those items
-Level capped missions to keep them difficult for everyone and to allow you to progress as your first class progresses
I would really like that game to be an SE game, even better, an FF game. But maybe SE is done with those kinds of games... FFXI isn't even like that anymore. So I'm just looking for some inside information. Maybe the devs have heard something in the hallways. I don't know. Help a taru out.
I think there's something you're not realizing and it's kinda simple. No matter how hard you wish and how hard you hope... you'll never love a game the same way you loved FFXI. Even if it is FFXI remade with better graphics.
The experiences you had, cannot be recreated no matter how hard you want it to be. That first time when you where lv10 and exploring a lv40 area that magic won't happen again. It's sad but it's true. The best you can do now is just keep it fond in your memory because a remake will never be able to recreate the moments that made you love the original FFXI.
Edit:
Just to expand upon this, you didn't love FFXI for the job skills and the way partying was (because it was slow and a time-sink in and of itself). You loved it because of the experiences you had in it with friends, and the events you did for the first time. And, unforunately... those things just cannot be remade.
You are asking the wrong people, though. You are literally asking them about a project they aren't working on and probably couldn't discuss anyway on these forums. You may as well be asking them about Kingdom Hearts 3D, which would be equally as pointless as this.
You can just bump your thread into infinity though, good luck!
I'm sure thats true for a lot of people, but definitely not me. I loved the leveling mechanics. I saw past the fact that it took forever, and realized what taking forever to level actually did for the game... It kept all ranges of content alive. It made players want to invest in gear for those levels to help them and, therefore, put a demand on that gear. I don't see vertical progression style gaming really giving use a place to call home for years... When things got boring for me in FFXI, I started up a new job, and opened myself up to new BCNM options, new capped mission options, and a new job to get good at.
Blah. I don't want FFXIV to be FFXI-2. Just want to be clear. I just want all those things that sometimes annoyingly, but 100% effectively, kept me immersed for 7 or 8 years.
Probably one thing is wrong... there are already a lot of time sink stuff in this game. gold chest rare, moggle drop rate, bla bla bla.. Hell, some of the friend still not get 7/7 yet after 10 hours/day from start 1.20 until now which count as 300 hours. (most of his PT got 7/7 tho)
I would rather they not recreate FF11 (unless it's offline/console only), but instead create a movie or mini-series of the entire story.
It would be nice to have FF11 continue even once the servers shut down or no one plays anymore (could easily be 10yrs+ still). I also hope they consider the same for FF14 in another 15-20years (assuming 2.0 succeeds).
