I'm legitimately interested in seeing if this is the case now with the re-addition of Miasma II.

As such, I'll lay down the gauntlet - Temple of the Fist - 3.4k dps with large pulls

It was an ~18 minute solo queue run so no preplanned tank cooldowns or such, I was still iLvl 323 at the time, solo queue roulette, whilst I initially thought I had hit the jackpot with two bards, only one of them sang foes more than once =(

Perhaps more relevantly, I peak at between 7 and 9k dps on the larger trash pulls, but hold a little over 2k dps on the bosses.

A fair point. I think what would really help is like you said a lower in spell cost and a buff in lily's healing potency. But I still think the dps for sch should be buffed. at least from what I've seen its less than whm's abilities.

SCH's lower up-front DPS makes up in the fact it offers party utility in Chain Stratagem, akin to how Dragoon offers Battle Litany, and Astro's lower DPS because of cards. White Mage offers nothing to the party.

Still, it has the most DoTs of the three healers, and in a large AoE pack it's serious damage.

Yep, its really all about coordinating like when tank wants to do the "the mega pull" after the panther bosses in Temple. SMN can easily 10k+ that entire pull and SCH also is no slouch. Lustrates for the weave pinch, just to get tank in safe range to keep tether floating.

To put some more numbers on the table to correspond with above:

Both the following logs are that same Birds, Bear and Coblyn mega pull after the Panthers. And both are WHM dps ofc.

49 seconds - 8.5k DPS

30 seconds - 11k DPS (The SMN did 17k!)

In the second link, I queued with the SMN and DRG who are both FC mates. But both tanks were pugs and again, there was no prearranged cooldown usage in either.

As a side note, on the slower 49 second trash kill, I used regen > tetra > assize > cure II > cure II > bene > cure II with a benison at the end for the next pack. Not much else was left on the table there ;)

Your intrigue may have to wait awhile. It's one thing saying Sch can do this/that etc. It can be totally different in actual combat situations rather than forum theory.

I'm not having a go at Sch here, I like the class. I play all three healers and have done since ARR launch (obviously only two of them at that time).

But for me, there is still more work required from the development team to get Sch back to the joy of playing it before 4.0

You don't heal dungeons by relying on Embrace and Physick. You heal them by relying on Excog, Rouse+WD and Fey Union.

SCH is the only healing job that you have to actually be good at to fulfill your main role properly, while WHM and AST can get away with spamming one healing button. I'm not making assumptions about your playstyle, but to be efficient on SCH you gotta know the kit inside out.

Other than that, I agree with what some other posters have said. If SCH's buffed anywhere beyond its current state, WHM will disappear completely from the more serious meta. If anything, they could buff the damage fall off from Bane, but anything other than that I'd be hesitant to do.

Uuuuhhh... I'll try to do this during the week. I usually run Expert on PLD bc I want my warlion, but I can try to get a log for that pull.

Quite honestly, I personally don't think SCH can out-DPS a WHM in AoE, but it might be very close, mostly bc I think the maths kind of add up. If you're patient I might be able to answer soon.

For a SCH to get close to WHM for big dungeon pulls, SCH needs Bane, Shadowflare, and constant Miasma II spam. WHM has it a lot easier with Aero IV and Holy spam.

Better DPS than AST and worse DPS than WHM in dungeons? Seems completely and absolutely fair.

SCH needs some buffs, at least for casual/novice players. Nocturnal AST is a lot better for carrying healing than SCH in PUGs. WHM/AST can get through dungeons and most content by just using Cure II/Benefic II and Medica/Helios. SCH that try to do the same with Adlo and Succor will find it a great struggle to heal.

As it is now, SCH will be the least popular healing job. Sure, it can be strong in the hands of a good healer. However, most players will struggle to play SCH at an adequate level.
