I mean, sure.. Maintaining buffs is all well and good. I play SAM and keep my buffs up while doing AoE but still am doing AoE combos most of the time. But at this point I would rather a DPS ignored buffs and did AoE rather than their single-targetting on a pack of 10 that they seem to be doing..
What of it? Practically every post on this forum is a repeat of one that's already been around at some point.
Why do people want to pull more then one pack at a time? It is a pug picked at random by a computer. What you like and what they like are not the same. Also anyone who has been around since 2.0 it is pretty obvious SE has sided with the smaller pull group. Can you pull more then 3 trash sets before you hit some sort of gate. We used to be able to go with friends and pull to a boss. But people got cranky and mean and fought over how randoms played and now we have gates everywhere.
We can't have nice things because people don't understand the difference between random duty finder player and picked party finder player. If its a party finder player go to whatever zone people hangout in and shame them. If it was some random be happy they dpsed like they know how to tap 6 buttons.
Sorry to say but you're in the minority if you prefer to run a dungeon slowly.
The community chooses the norm, not the devs.
That being said, you can still pull 3-4 groups at a time in most cases before hitting a gate and that's what the majority of the community do.
Furthermore, dungeons have less mobs between bosses, and mobs can't be avoided anymore. (You used to be able to slip passed some groups without aggro if you were smart, which you can't do anymore)
By all means, if you're a DPS and don't wish to do more than 3 mobs at a time, you're more than welcome to make a PF.. However the community norm is to pull groups, so 9 times out of 10, that's what you get when you zone into a DF dungeon.
As a DPS your job is to do the most amount of damage you can, regardless how many mobs is hitting the tank. If you choose to significantly under-perform because you don't want to use your AoE skills out of pure stubbornness, you're no better than a healer who doesn't want to cast cure, or a tank who doesn't want to hold hate.
You evidently don't understand that the community decides the norm. If you deviate from that norm (in which case, deciding to run a dungeon 3-mobs at a time), then you likely will suffer from vote kicks and people venting their frustration in duty finder..
I don't kick these people, nor do I harass them.. But I definitely ask them if they can please use their AoE skills, or use goad (usually with no response).
A lot of melee dps ain't good with their TP management.
Ahh! your goal is informing and influencing, Good luck!
Big pulls and AOE are awesome for people who wanna get their runs done and have the gear and skills to support it. Not so much for newbies and people who are behind on their gear.
Forcing new people or .. stubborn.. people into it isn't usually going to work though, I highly commend you for putting your suggestions politely though, it's a courtesy most don't extend.
For the most part, your level on these roulettes (which I'm assuming it's the 50/60 duty roulette) really matters in terms of why players probably aren't doing AoE. In fact, at higher levels, this is probably a side effect of players who either use the level skip to get with their friends at level 60 or players who have never played a dps job prior to Stormblood suddenly hopping over to SAM or RDM. Any earlier than level 50 and you potentially could get someone who is extremely new to RPGs and might not even realize they have Role actions such as Goad and Invigorate which supplement AoE.
