Who says it's a new player? I been playing since 2.2 and I never had a house because I cannot seem to amass the sum of gil required for one. Don't generalise it only to new players.

... so ... you're... back?
I'm a little confused. Are you paying again? or are you going to see in the next 7 days whether it's worth it to support this game again?
Either way, it's a system either one player gets their house demolished (the current model) and likely never comes back, or a system where a player who wants a house can't get one because they are all taken by inactive players. That's a design and technical problem, with a disastrous effect on their players. Player housing should have never been so limited to begin with.
I hate the demolition system even though it's how I got my house, but I agree it's better for players with active subs to have houses than players who aren't playing. At least players with active subs are actually in a position to use the house.
I hate it because I feel 45 days is far too short and forcing players to log in and enter the house is very awkward. What if you must go away for work and will not have access to a gaming machine? SE really should introduce something in the Mog Station that resets the demolition timer so that if you're unable to log in you can still keep your house as long as your sub is still being paid and you're paying attention to the timer. Even that is still bad but it would be better.
I realise the system is far from perfect but it is a better situation than slots just gathering dust. My faith ain't that much into instanced housing either given how instances are currently handled. Alot of work needs to be done to make all players happy in regards to housing but this is the best out of an awful situation.
To be fair, the developers wouldn't have known if you were going to come back or not.
If they would've looked at your case, they would've only seen someone who was gone for two years and left a house that wasn't being used.
The idea behind the demolition process is to give subscribed players a chance to buy homes from players who no longer play.
I agree that 45 days is way too short, and you're virtually forced to pay rent.
If it's any consolation, I strongly recommend getting an apartment. It's much cheaper, comes with a chocobo stable, conveniently located marketboard and summoning bell, and there's a mender and mail moogle in the lobby. You can also add all the convenient items like armoire and crystal bell, and you can teleport to it for very cheap. It won't get demolished, and it's not attached to a free company. Apartments are awesome!
