It suppose to help defense, damage, and healing intake. People only see the damage part and think it is weak. If you read the tool tip in full, it will say "the more you have the better these are".

Scaling mostly, I'd say. You need around 1000 tenacity to get around 4.5% from it's effects from my understanding, which isn't outstanding. I'd say it's probably better than parry was, but it's still not great. I'm not offended to have it on my gear, but I'm certainly not gonna go out of my way to get more.
That said, it is early in the xpac, and we don't know what kind of secondary stat numbers we're gonna end up with. It may end up being fine later, and buffing it now would make it broken, hard to say. Personally, I'd rather just put some STR on fending bits, and call it a day. I don't need to do top dps as a tank, not why I'm here, but carrying around out of date accessories for doing solo stuff is inane, at best.

It was tested. The dmg raise is miniscule. The healing part is miniscule and only affects OUTGOING healing.
Reading tooltips and believing in them like a headless monkey are 2 different things.

It's a fact: Tenacity in its current state is more or less the worst stat you can have, compared to the usual contestants.

Yup, tested it myself. Ten doesnt affect self regeneration while in battle, nor does it affect healing received from other players.
I did not test outgoing healing myself, but i have heard in another topic someone posted a test on reddit or smth.

1% per 200 from what I've seen. As opposed to the average of 1% per 150 on Direct Hit, if memory serves me here. Identical gear, materia choices aside: Full DH is +3.46% Ten is +2.6%. A .86% difference between the two in damage output.
Meanwhile a DH tank mitigates nothing extra while a Ten tank takes 2.6% less damage.

intake may want to read the tool tip. :) you are also missing defense. Also what testing? a parser? if so there is a margin if error on those and can be inaccurate.

sry but i believe in game tool tips more then a user made program that can't accurately calculate stat weights.

Ten: "effects physical and magical damage received, and hp restored, the more you have the higher the value the more damage dealt, the more hp resorted, and less damage taken"

SE knows the true stat weights just fyi.

Tooltips have been consistently bad, putting it lightly, this expansion. From player testing, healing intake either is a complete lie or is so statistically insignificant that it's immeasurable. Especially when considering the mitigation and damage output bits at least seem to share the same level of scaling.

What OP said is exactly what is going to happen. SE needs to remove the incentive to wear i270 slaying, and the only way to do this is to add Strength to accessories - maybe 2/3 of the Vitality value. They'll have to then adjust the STR/AP ratio; hopefully they won't be too harsh.

You wouldn't even need a parser. Just turn your combat log on in-game, there's even a tab for it by default on your chat bar. Compare the damage some of your skills do with one stat melded, vs another.
The first step to any discussion is accepting the possibility that you may be wrong - otherwise it isn't a discussion, it's one person plugging their ears and yelling "nanana, I'm right you're wrong". Which is more or less what you're doing there.

Lvl 70 Pld with 1200 Ten
vs
lvl 70 Pld with 400 Ten

EXACT same Hp regeneration while infight (checked via built-in battle log)
EXACT same Healing received over a course of 10 Minutes (given the small range of differences there can be)

.86% more dmg outweighs 2.6% less dmg received. At least when it comes to optimizing.
