Suggestion as to how to get people to become healers.

I'm not sure how much of an impact this change would have on the healer population, however I would like to point out that a recent blog entry alluded to a possible change to Cleric Stance. The comment was about as vague as you can get, but whatever is in store was "worth mentioning."

They are leaving us to speculating until we receive official word, but I think the removal of Cleric Stance is entirely possible. We have already heard about their goal to reduce the wide gap in skill levels and the removal of Cleric Stance would align with those intentions.

Yes, typically when someone discusses challenging content they're speaking of new, progression encounters they're doing with a reliable and competent group, not stale PUG content you're doing in PF three weeks later.

So yes, my stance that a healer will know when they can and cannot use Cleric is based on the assumption they're in a competent group.

Except that yoshi also said during a live letter
that he knows people are gonna kill him if
he was to remove cleric stance now.

So I highly doubt they will remove it.

I'd just be happy to get that one button back. I barely press CS in easy content since I just stay in it anyway, but in hard content I don't feel it adds a great deal to the experience the way it is now; it's more a lag penalty than a tactical decision. The wider issues of healer DPS and balance certainly need looking at but a redesign of the system could be an interesting part of that picture.

Doubt it will get more people to play healers though. There are tons of us (on JP servers at least), and some people just flat out don't like healing in general. The presence or absence of CS won't change their mindset; I don't enjoy melee and changing some arbitrary melee mechanic wouldn't fix that for me, either.

I am going to disagree with this. Stance dancing adds some challenge to the healing role in low damage scenarios. God knows healing is very straight forward and the dps rotations healers have are almost mind numbing.

The only situation I would be happy with this is if healers actually had to invest more time into healing. Otherwise the healing role is just a nerfed dps with healing support.

Frankly most non healers that struggle with healing seem to have more issue with keeping aware of the status of their team while dpsing cleric stance or no. A lot of dps and tanks are used to focusing on the enemy rather than their own party.

But PF is still PF and you will always have more and less competent groups. You cant only base off your assumptions on statics. Not everyone has time for statics.

I dont always do the exact same amount of dps and sometimes there are more opportunities to dps than in other runs.
Sometimes, I feel in a more risky mood than others and try to dish out another additional spell where I normally wouldnt.

There are super safe windows to do dps, but trying to go beyond that is all about guesstimating whether you can get away with it without the tank dying or not.

Again: go get there yourself before you try to speak on behalf of others.

To be honest, I stopped playing a healer because of Cleric Stance. I was more than capable of stance dancing, but I didn't care for the stress. I'm not the type of player who thrives in a highly stressful situation. I play this game to relax, not to, 'Achieve,' something more than said relaxation. The removal of Cleric Stance and having Mind affect our DPS and Heals would probably make me move back towards healing, but really, they'd need to fix White Mage as well first. I don't really care for Scholar, and Astrologian rubs me the wrong way on a lot of levels (I really do not care for RNG).

MMOs tend to lean towards one of two principles that form the core of the genre: RNG, or Grind. FFXIV leans more towards grind. As a result, I have a more enjoyable time with FFXIV than other games. I can run a dungeon, get no upgrades or items for my spec (about to end come Stormblood given we'll have guaranteed drops from the final boss for our jobs), and still get tomestones, experience, minions, etc... something that makes it worthwhile to have run the dungeon in the first place. Its not a waste of my time the way an RNG focused MMO would be.
