Warning about handing out wedding invites

Some of these replies honestly disgust me. Instead of going all like 'oh you're stupid for not knowing how players are in online games, stop seeking attention' maybe it would be more constructive to, as a user above mentioned, fix a kick option for guests that are being ungrateful. Why do people think it's cool to blame, point fingers, and be a cynic online? Seriously....

Some responses in this threasd are absolutely disgusting and uncalled for, People should be ashamed of themselves for acting like morons and ruining other peoples time in game too |OP sorry your wedding was ruined I hope you and your partner have a long loving marriage though <3

There are many 'disgusting' things in the world in general but a handful of players bluntly pointing out the flaws in the 'everybody is welcome' approach to what should be a private event is far from the worst thing to ever be posted on this site. That doesn't mean that the people who trolled the event aren't to blame in any way - because they are - but at some point there's got to be at least some responsibility on the shoulders of those throwing out invites at random and not screening those in attendance in advance. That the community at large is a mixed bag should not be a shock to anybody playing FFXIV.

Didn't realise pointing out the truth was now considered disgusting. My bad, maybe I should be falsely sympathetic of the OP and tell him that the world is full of gumdrop and rainbow people who won't do anything wrong if he doesn't even know or check who he's inviting to something he wants to be serious.

OP actually has learned his lesson. That's why he issued the warning. No need to be a cynic about someone who's actually just trying to save other well-intention couples from doing the same thing.

Also experiences online especially in the gaming corner can differ from real life. From one's perspective, if you happen to play a game where 95% of the time you meet nice people, you may think that your server community is worth the random invites.


Its easy to jump the shark and oust a player for being naive when you don't consider the above point.

So many of you are babbling about the truth. The truth? I just attended a wedding (literally 10 minutes ago) of a couple who was handing out their invitations in Gridania. I never saw either of them before, had no clue who the guests were.... But guess what, everyone was nice, and nothing bad happened. No bad emote spams, skill spams... Nothing, it was lovely despite all the new strange faces.

If you have nothing nice or constructive to say it may be more worth to keep your mouth shut. Obligatory congrats to the lovely couple on Cerberus, hope you have a lovely time together!

Congrats on there being some people who took it serious, but really, one or two experiences does not make it 100% or even 90% of the time. Fact remains that if you look anywhere on the internet, the majority of people will be trolls, mocking and making fun of things that should be a serious deal. Take the United Airline ordeal for an example, what should be a very serious thing was reduced to Harambe status meme in a matter of minutes.

In XIV it is no different, the majority of players would rather rip on people and have a laugh for themselves at the expense of others. Sure there are nice people out there, but just throwing out random invites you're not guaranteed to pick out those rarities. You must be delusional or not used to how online works if you don't see how this is truth.

Some very negative people here. Yeah, you get some idiots and trolls wherever you go, but I would not say they are a majority. Perhaps in your personal experience they are, but that could well also be confirmation bias.

I'm not saying OP was right to just go inviting strangers to an event that clearly meant a lot to them, but going round saying people are bad, the majority are trolls, etc and stamping on anything even remotely positive with your bad attitude makes you just as bad as the bad people you refer to. Or perhaps that's your intention. Can't beat 'em then join them?

Nobody said everyone is bad. What they said was: If you have an open door, you have to expect the good people AND the bad people to walk in. That's just common sense. It is why we invented locks.

And nobody claimed that anyone said that everyone is bad. A few people (some of which have now deleted their comments) have claimed that trolls are a majority. I dispute that claim.
