Why are summoners so neglected?

that's not neglect, that's just them designing the job differently from how you want it.

Dreadwyrm Trance is also summoning and Deathflare is using an avatar's ability.

Summoners get the same treatment as Bards, their main theme is neglected for functionality of how they designed the job.

Not every job needs the same number of additions to make things work. Some need more, others need less.

Granted, Dreadwyrm Trance and its addons are not the direction I would have taken SMN. Not when there's room for growth for pets.

This is a false equivalence. BRDs being archers with songs has some precedent and is presented in a way that makes sense. What was done to SMN between the ARR quests and the HW quests literally smelled of them making up a reason to not get Ramuh/Leviathan/Shiva-egi and little else.

Personally I'm more for the Dreadwyrm Trance over Egi's at this point. And I'd honestly say, as far as other older Final Fantasys. FFIX for instance, you only mostly had just a summon's power come out, do their move, then that was it. So something like Dreadwyrm Trance very much has precedence from the get go, and feels more Summoner to me then anything.

Just rambling musings, but I would have loved to just get rid of the DoT system all together (let SCH's keep it.) and give SMN like Primal abilities as their skill sets and Trance states as higher tier abilities. Like Shiva Trance, Ifrit Trance, etc etc. I don't know, something like that to me would have been a much more intuitive and more exciting thing to see over what we have, which is why I'm hoping RDM is to my liking and will be my main in 4.0 :3

Neglected? They're currently one of the best - if not the best - options for tackling the solo challenges in Palace of the Dead. They were - at least for a time - also the go to option in PvP due to how immensely powerful their burst and damage over time abilities happened to be. I know not if that is still the case. Still, they got 'glamour' options for their pets which is more than the other 'pet' classes have gotten. Would more be good? Sure, but this isn't WoW and 'pets' aren't as big a part of the combat in this game as they are in WoW and certain other MMO's.

But instead of those, we got a feature that's so polished that Carbuncles learned how to shoot stones and poop fire in a jerky manner. Isn't it amazing? And, get a load of this: it took over one year after the expansion released, and still no sight of Ramuh and Leviathan! We're truly privileged!

I really think they are just clueless when it comes to mmos. They are so behind the times and so self limiting. They basically made SMN a real SMN in FFXI, here is just being lazy and can't come up with ways to get around the balancing issue from being attached to ACN and SCH.

It is. Because it's the only job in the whole game that has a special feature and side quest of its own and only for *it*. So no, they aren't neglected. They're privileged. Where is BRD's special love? DRG? DRK? MNK(actually MNK did get Emperor's new fist and kettles)? WAR? AST? BLM?

They were all even before. SMN got special attention. It's more than any other job. If BRD gets and Arrow Design glamour set, then it's an equivalent.

Yep you are. I can't shoot arrows made of fire or make my flaming arrow AoE look like an acid spill.

Just remove all the skills from smn, give it summon, and rouse, and spur. enkindle
and 18 summons that only have an auto attack and the enkindle ability.

i ,eam besodes 10/11/12 They normally just casted a one time burst spell for lots of mp. With how mechanics are in this game id almost rather give up the pet for more burst since i gotta dodge anyway, often times having the pet die in certain situations. hell half the time i dont even pay attention to the thing, while dodging aoes and mechanics.

I'm sorry, but no just no. It's not even game breaking, not a new skill.... if anything WHM's Stoneskin II should be more of a shock then the Egi Glamour system. We should have gotten new pets period!! Or just scrap that and go w/ something new like the trance system over Egi's period lol.

It is PURELY GLAMOUR! That is it lol.... like seriously.
