i'll just say though i think the main reason why they keep tanks and healers gear shared is that it is to avoid progression nightmares in savage raids since some tanks and healers switch between main and secondary tanking/healing roles and some also switch jobs for certain floors like in my former group our MT is PLD for A9s and A10s but switches to DRK for the A11s and A12s.

Yes, yes. Melee DPS also have such features. Monk can be usefull in the fights with strong HPS check (mantra), Ninja+Dragoon can be used, where need a good common DPS. That is why melee-DPS players must have an opportunity to switch between classes like tanks and healers do

So you want to completely change the lore of all 3 melee by having them use the same gear?

the other thinkg is being shared they never really fit any of the roles properly. the shire gear again is an example of this. the custodisans armor doesn't really fit any of the tanks thematically imo. so yeah more job specific gear would be great as hopefully it would better fit with the jobs

I'd really like to see glamour handled better. FFXIV's system for that feels super primitive compared to other MMOs.

I have a theory about this. I dont think it has to do with lore at all, more to do with efficiency.

I think in the beginning the intent was that every dps class had their own style of gear, only healers and tanks shared their stuff. then they started adding more dps classes and, to save time and space, started sharing sets between jobs to make things easier.

The original dps lineup was mnk, drg, brd and blm, each with their own unique gear set.

Smn was added fairly late into development. It was a job voted for by fans, so im guessing that as a quick fix they made them use the same gear as blm. Might explain why it's the only job that shares a class with sch too.

Nin was introduced in a later patch. If I remember correctly a lot of their gear was just mnk stuff with DEX added to it (ie the Fuma set from LotA) until ninjas started getting their own set.

Finally they add mch, which is a ranged dps that uses DEX. It would make sense just to share this with brd.

Who knows, they may add more dps jobs that share gear sets with the melee jobs. I could totally see samurai sharing with drg, dancer sharing with ninja and... Uh... Puppet master sharing with mnk? A lalafell can dream.

Drg have higher vitality and more defense so they can't share gear with monks and ninjas use dex. the only reason ninjas and monks shared some gear was due to ninja being released in an even patch and was done in a hurry.

As well Dragoons tend to atleast LOOK like they have actual armor in past FF games compared to other roles like Monk and Ninja. To my understanding if Samurai is added as a DPS it would also share gear with Dragoon due to similar reasons.

To be honest i always want to wear tank armor on my drg, it look so "armory" compare to drg, but i cant play tank

SE please make glamour is not restricted to your class T_T

Stat specs on those classes need to be different in order for most players to optimize. It's annoying having shared gear on healers. Sch looooves crit but sure as hell doesn't need spell speed. The downside of having so much content is you might have to focus on gearing up your favorite job.
