The only thing I really hope is the exception is the cure spell.
Its vitally important to game play for the mage to balance which potency and mp cost is needed in regards to mp and enmity management.
I would feel extremely restricted if you couldn't lightly top someone off, or you could only bomb people in the middle of a delicate fight with a 900 hp cure... That would be a nightmare haha.
Unless they have something specific up their sleeves to mimic this function of tiered cure, then that should be fine.
I don't mind the abolishment of tiers for damage spells or battle abilities as, you pretty much wish to always use your top damage dealing and often times once you've outgrown a certain stage that ability is abandoned to your action list graveyard.
As for the fun factor of spells become gradually more flashy with their level, who is to say this still won't happen? After a certain level they may just naturally shift into the different animation. This may not be right away, as they indicated cosmetic changes will come after they worry about the programming working. Or, I'd entertain the notion that a system like that may be 2.0 exclusive. Either way, I wouldn't fret yet about how pretty the animations are, it's something they've had complaints about in the past and have worked on improving so I'm certain they're aware of concerns people have about looking cool. -

shouldnt choosing which strength of nuke to cast for enmity and MP consumption reasons fit into that? or is it really so much so that Nukers dont and shouldnt effectively exist in the FF MMO franchise but in every other game? -

people are worried that healing will get even more dificult, but there is no worry from the community about having an effective nuker in your endgame fights, then why the hell have them in game then? its frustrating.
i dont want Nuking to go the "solo puddings" way as it was in FFXI only with less visual appeal and less options for MP and casting timers.
do you know how often i used tier 3 spells while playing FFXI? A LOT. -

Would be nice if the visual effect changes as potency increases (for example Fire would use Fire I's visuals until you're level 20, then Fire II's visuals until 40, and so on). I would be all for CNJ spells looking more potent (have you seen how pathetic Quake looks, while we're on the subject), but we'll need to wait and see what SE have planned.
The guild mark abolition worries me more; I spent a lot of time getting cross-class traits and this may throw that into jeopardy. I'll have to wait and see the specifics.
(Also, wait for the CNJ/THM players to complain about Shield actions being made GLA skills)
