I actually like the fact that this game doesnt have pvp gear. Its one of the things I liked the most about pvp in GW2. It just makes it so much more accessible for people, which means lower queue times. Which we honestly need more of.

Granted I don't want some huge curve of PvP gear that I have to obtain and get smashed in PvP for not having it...but you'd think there would be SOME kind of desire to obtain it, even if it's by a small amount. Or at least some Grand Company PvP gear since it's all Grand Company anyway (excluding feast of course)
I really wish people would stop saying this. It's not true, and you're misleading new players.
The primary use for PvP gear is min/maxing your stats. PvE gear has a tendency to stack a lot of useless shit on your character, such as parry (which is legitimately useless, as rapid movement in feast negates the chances of scoring a parry) and accuracy (which is almost useless, as the accuracy cap for PvP is considerably lower than PvE). Ideally, if you want to seriously gear up for PvP, then you want to minimize those stats as much as possible and replace them with more useful stats, such as Crit or Det. To do this effectively means mixing your PvE gear with PvP gear or custom crafted gear. So, right off the bat, PvP gear is most certainly NOT useless.
That said, you do have to be a little careful with how you handle your stats. A lot of the PvP gear has a slightly lower attack power rating than that of top end PvE gear (due to the level being lower, at 205). This means that your PvP loadout could surpass your PvE loadout in Crit and Det, but suffer a penalty on your overall attack power. You'll crit more, but each individual attack could be slightly weaker than your full PvE set. Morale might actually effect this as well, because, if I remember correctly, the morale stat is actually still applied before level sync. Meaning that your stat caps are adjusted slightly between being in the instance and without. Each individual class would have to do individual testing to figure out the ideal mix. Unfortunately, testing like this is difficult to conduct because we can't view the stat adjustments when in Wolves Den Pier. You have to actually compare how your stats look outside of an instance to how they look when you're in.
Materia, on the other hand, is useless.
