Sadly, I have this huge feeling some of the top ones / the winner will end up being a metal bikini or some crap :/ knowing the playerbase, I don't doubt it. Sort of like how the hairstyle contest only had the super professional drawings as winners, compared to the less skilled but still good that were more unique and nice looking.
I'm going with something really bulky myself. You can submit multiple entries, which is what I'm going to do, so just make a few designs that fit your personal tastes.
That's both of my worries too. Like, basically the entries for a tank, dps, and mage contest either ending up like some fetish stuff or bikini tops :\ which.. isn't.. the worse I guess, but we've already got plenty of stuff like that in just general patches and holidays. I'm not the best at art either, so I'd worry stuff would be picked out of what looks the hottest or just well drawn
Bikini glamours do have a tendency to gain fast popularity. Though from what I know about the majority of the players that play this game; most people just don't want something that feels tin can-ish.
Remember it's a fantasy game, so something over the top; and non-realistic will probably get you the most attention.
Some over the top/non realistic things you shouldn't do is something like this:

Or rather, the set looks good for the most part; but honestly; how often do you actually see tanks wear this? Those're questions you should be asking yourself. Go around town and take note of what people are glamouring their tanks to. And don't worry about the players that happen to glamour their gear to bikinis, because those're the people that usually glamour everything to a bikini regardless of how nice it looks.
Until we can successfully genocide female lalas out the game (why do you washboards exist?!) there will be no bikini armors . It'll just be another part dress, part chestplate design that generates as much sexual tension as an extremely slow horseback ride. Dismiss the idea of metalic boobie jiggling altogether.
Some tabard plates minus the low collar would be fantastic. The Valarian Dragoon mail is a god send for me when I dps.
One thing you could do is add a glow effect onto the armor.
For instance you can have an armor that is more lightweight and less tin-can in design, but thematically it gets its defense because it projects this cool looking runic barrier around the various parts of the character when in combat to blunt the swing of the enemy.
This would involve doubling the drawing to include a out/in combat state but it would raise it up on a "want to glamour that" list. Some people just like to see things glow in cool ways. Its why many weapon glamours involve weapons that glow, and why those glamours are expensive in the first place.
