Having Some Difficulty With Tank Armor Design Contest

Hey all! I'm excited about the tank armor design contest but I've hit a brick wall.

After doing a bunch of research on plate armors, I keep trying to make my armor too realistic. I feel I am overlooking something about how to design gear for a video game.

Can anyone provide some tips on how to capture that Final Fantasy look? I appreciate any tips you can provide me.

simply make some aspects of you armor unrealistic in terms of function, ex large shoulder pads or super bulky armor. However any designs would work as long as you feel content with it as armors in fantasy games are only limited to the lore attached to it. Sorry I would help more but I too am competing in this contest and don't want to give too much away. Good Luck.

Lots of unnecessary belts. If you think there are too many, then there aren't enough, quadruple the amount just to be safe.

You need to also think about, "Would I like to wear this?" Design the armour that YOU want to wear . It's a chance to get your perfect tank glamour in the game.

I think there are some good tips in this thread all ready, but honestly just to add. Think design over function. It makes little sense in a Final Fantasy to give way to practicality. Look at some of the Garlean armors, for instance. Do they really need odd T-shaped helmets with strange horn protrusions? The answer is yes, because they look sweet. I'm not saying that adding in functionality is a bad thing, just certainly not the basis for this particular design contest I feel.

I request you add an actual cape to the chest armor >_> not a butt cape...

as far as making it fantasy oriented, try picking a theme such as an element, animal, or something obscure to emulate. From there you might find some interesting designs. An example would be trying to make an armor that looks like its made of bones.

I'm a fan of leather armor personally.

Badass enough to bring into a dungeon, and still cool enough to casually walk into a tavern with, without looking like some super hero.
