How many only main one job?

Thanks for the input everyone. :) I guess as long as the classes I like to play are still geared and viable for current content (savage excluded) I'll continue to experement with which one fits my style better and save lore tomes/midas drops until I find my main. That gives me about a month to figure it out lol.

I am only a warrior because it is the master job.

I don't think this game lends itself to the ability of maining multiple jobs. Due to caps on tomestones/lockouts, I can't equally gear all of my jobs or even more than 1 really. This has eased with allowing healers to share gear, but even then the weapon is gated.

Personally, I consider a main job as the one you focus your gearing on and use for harder content.

For me, that is SCH. Second would be SMN which is sitting 11 ilvls lower than SCH atm.

I bard/mach in Savage but in other content i go as what i feel like.

Game is too gated to be as effective as you can be without focusing on one job.

Sure you can spread it around, but you won't be as good as you could be, and that would always bother me. Best time to change class mains would be during a gear reset (every even major patch (3.0, 3.2, 3.4).

I do gear multiple jobs, but when it comes down to it I put my focus on Dragoon first. That said by this point I'm all but geared (unless I start doing Savage) and even before this week I had started focusing Midas drops for my tanks.

On the bright side if you aren't trying to main a Melee DPS you atleast still have some options if you want to change classes a bit. Like if you end up not liking Black Mage too much but want to try Summoner, you would already have some gear which makes the transition more smooth. Only real problem is the weapon.

While i have been gearing multiple classes that i play (blm and Nin) and am wanting to go back and play as Bard as well so more gear :/
Also to note that gear for certain classes, crafted is better then lore so i have went crafted route for blm on some items.
I would say go with whichever class you prefer and focus on gearing that before moving on to other classes

I have to second the statement that if you're not raiding, then it doesn't really matter.

I raid as SCH, so I got midas/lore/crafted gear for that first... next is BLM, which is a class I play most often for roulettes and etc. if I don't feel like healing. After that I guess will be MCH.

I tank for my static in EX stuff so my first gear priority is dark knight. But I got the dark knight relic up to 230 so I bought the lore weapon for summoner, which is what I play when I solo things. We're not doing Savage though so it's not really a big deal either way.

I main Nin in my static but I can also play MCH as well. in terms of gear, its not as bad since I can still use the accessories that I get from my nin. also play War when I feel like it, but its usually pretty undergeared compared to both my nin and mch.
