Already discussed in another thread. As far as I know, they're still stuck on the Gold Membership problem. Microsoft insists that FFXIV players must be Gold Xbox Live members. SE insists that FFXIV players can't be required to pay an additional subscription fee on top of their FFXIV subscription (which Gold Membership requires--note that the PlayStation's premium service, PlayStation Plus, is not required to play FFXIV on the PS3 or PS4). Until they come to an agreement on this, nothing's happening.

Final Fantasy 11 (MMO) allowed cross-platform play between PC, Playstation 2, and Xbox 360.

It was Microsoft (Phil Spencer) that decided it didn't want FFXIV on the Xbox saying "Different kind of deals happen, and I know that's part of this business, and maybe it'll be my failing in the end," he says, laughing. "(In the case of third party games) it's not something I specifically embrace." It doesn't matter if he's changed his mind now. It's far too late in my opinion. He threw his chance away saying it's not something he's a huge fan of.

The Xbox One and PS4 run on nearly identical hardware minus a small graphical bump on the PS4 soooo that wouldn't limit the game at all.

Ps4 has 50% more compute units in its GPU.

I think Jetstream_Fox is right about only a small graphical bump being the difference between those two versions if they came to be, what matters is the CPU. MMOs are pretty much always CPU bound and it would be the case here unless the devkits provide low level access to GPU and programmers can harness that to offload the CPU work.

Without having a trained eye you can't tell the difference at times when it comes to the graphics. Having both the systems, at times I can't even tell the difference if I'm watching someone play on a Xone or PS4. Any system that has come out in the past few years should have 0 problem getting this game to work unless they're running into OS problems, then that's more on the development team to not understand how to fine tune the game for whatever OS. This game is running on PS3 which is almost a decade old, and in terms of hardware at this point that is considered ancient, like the first model T going up against a 2016 luxury car. The only time the Xone would likely have issue is when a S rank spawns and it seems like the entire data center shows up for it. Even in cases like that the PS4 and even some PCs have difficulty handling all the effects and system load.

Not going to happen as long Microsoft want it to be tied to Xbox Live Gold.

FF XI and Phantasy Star Universe didn't require Gold and they were sub games.

That doesn't alter the fact that multiplayer games on Xbox One require Gold membership.
