Question about damage Dex vs. (Str + Attack power)

Sorry for the confusion. It is not that I know Carraway had done the test. I just thought Carraway probably did to certain extent, because I have seen some of the guides by him/her previously which I thought very good.

I only change the DEX as suggested. Using Traits +10 and +5, and +21 from rings, so that is a total of 36 DEX. I'm trying to see if I can get a working parser to test again.

And I understand you're suggesting a better method to test it Carraway =)

I really haven't played ARC at all since 1.19 hit. LNC was my first class to 50, so I'm thankful for the opportunity to push the class to its limits in the Ifrit fight, just as I did with ARC in DH. When I do manage to get an Ifrit's Bow, I will try to do some testing of my own, but I'm also happy to see others doing their own testing and theorizing.

I haven't done a whole lot on Archer since hitting 50 on it put I can play around with the parser and DEX to see what I come up with.

I'll try and do some testing for this once I get unslotted gloves, and dex slotted gloves

Keep in mind this is only for light shot and I have not tested WS's yet, but I would suspect (and hope) that the trend continues. I may try to do WS testing later.

Using light shot, shooting L1 marmots outside of Grid, and warped arrows with base stats of: 212 str, 229 dex, and 487 attack power. 50 shots for each setup were done because I'm lazy and the trending was pretty obvious pretty fast.

Base: 504.6 average, 541 high end, 463 low end
+20 str: 505.1 average, 541 high end, 463 low end
+20 dex: 516.48 average, 554 high end, 474 low end

I did some tests too. I'm going to get a parser to confirm that but the conclusion seems to be the same as yours, and same as everyone here I see.
I first came here because I was looking for an answer to this question: Why we cannot meld a Strength Materia to a bow whereas we can meld a Dexterity Materia? (I noticed KRose mentioned it too)

All these tests could be the answer.

I forgot I posted here. Long story short, increasing DEX increased the damage of Light Shot. I used the parser that Carraway linked here (thanks for that btw!) to come to that conclusion. Now as far as Foeseeker or weaponskill damage in general... that I haven't extensively tested yet. I would assume at this point you would at least want Attack Power to a point. I have +19ATK on my hands but I'm not sure if that's enough to see anything noticeable. I can play around with that too though... no harm done in that.

I applied attack power on my hands and noticed about a 10-15% increase in dmg in light shotn; nothing crazy. However i think your right about the dex materia in a bow. If it is like FFXI i would think SE would go back to that. I mean thats what I thought initially about this game with dex.

the implication here is that dex increased your minimum damage, the interesting thing is it seems str effect was negligable, however the problem with testing on level 1s is it is possible that it is not including all factors.

but regardless your max dmg was virtually the same, but you min dmg was increase via dex. which lead to a slightly higher average.

It scales similarly against stronger enemies as well, others have run similar tests in practical situations. DEX is the archer damage stat, and it behaves as STR does for other classes, plain and simple.

There is no oddball capping done on L1 enemies, it is representative enough to show accurate trending, insofar as proving that a particular attribute is altering our base damage.

Also, I'm not sure what math you're doing, but the min damage increase was 11 (474-463) and the max damage increase was 13 (554-541). So in actuality, the max damage increased more, not the min. In truth though both increased roughly equally which resulted in the higher average, so, yeah. Not really sure what point you're trying to make.

We're DEX based, plain and simple. If you want to do further testing, do testing that revolves around attack power vs dexterity and their relative benefits. I don't have the resources to do so, but that'd be the next logical step. My assumption, however, would be that it scales as STR does presently, which is a rough 2:3 ratio of STR:ATK.

I also ran numbers on single-arrow foeseeker, it scales directly with dexterity too. There have been a number of other corroborating tests recently, in this very thread and on other forums.
