    Question about damage Dex vs. (Str + Attack power)

    Stat:
    Str 266
    Dex 230
    Attack power 484
    Bow Ul'dahn Longbow
    Arrow Dated red coral arrow

    Light shot damage range non-critical on Corroded Coblyn 670 ~ 790 (absolutely no hit above 800)

    Stat:
    Str 230
    Dex 266
    Attack power 480
    Bow Ul'dahn Longbow
    Arrow dated red coral arrow

    Light shot damage range non-critical on Corroded Coblyn 710~805 (absolutely no hit below 700) [WS damage range also improves compared to 266 Str]

    I tested many many times, would someone else please try and confirm this?
    The test on level 1 enemy may has many flaws. However I do not understand why losing Str and Attack power would result in a decrease in attack range on level 1 enemy.

    I'm not sure exactly, but typically you want more control over it. For example, was every mob you attacked level 1? When you dropped your STR from 266 to 230, why'd you change your Attack Power as well?

    It's hard to test something like that without the rest of your numbers being consistent. The only thing I can tell from these numbers is that for some reason, dropping your STR and Attack Power not only raised your floor but your ceiling. I wonder if Archer's damage is more influenced by Dexterity than it is by Strength. It wouldn't be so farfetched... you can equip DEX but not STR to an Archer's weapon afterall.

    I did a similar test and did indeed get similar results. I will continue testing. Someone with better scientific method should really do some experiments with this and provide some more reliable results.

    O.K, the reason is that DEX has never been made to influence damage at all. STR is, since beta and maybe alpha.

    I think you misunderstand, mariya. We are saying that Dexterity appears to be the damage modifier for ranged attack, not strength.

    Suggested methodology:

    Perform hundreds of Light Shots against L50 Amalj'aa Drubber in front of Zahar'ak.
    Perform hundreds of Foeseekers against the same target.

    Add a significant (30+) amount of DEX without changing ATK or STR.

    Perform hundreds of Light Shots against L50 Amalj'aa Drubber in front of Zahar'ak.
    Perform hundreds of Foeseekers against the same target.

    Parse~

    Well... I do not know what to say. I followed what was suggested using the same bow and arrow, though probably about 50 light shots each only. I even did it on the same enemy, letting its life regen and repeat, in case the same level and type of enemies have different attributes. The result was the same as the first test.

    But Carraway must had done extensive tests on this, being the author of guides. Probably I should have gotten a much larger sample shots. Headache now ( - _ - )"

    Regardless, if anyone in Mysidia would like to help me test it again, side by side, shot by shot, please send a tell. I am probably being overly paranoid now, but I would like to test with two different characters, just in case...the problem turns out to be Veon (and Iodo, sorry! =X)

    I didn't know Carraway had tested this. Did I miss that somewhere? I think he was just suggesting how you could go about doing more accurate testing. For your most recent tests though (I know before you were changing multiple stats), was the only stat you changed DEX? And if so, by how much and what piece of gear or materia are you using to do it?
