I think people have the wrong idea about Mentors... Mentors aren't meant to be teaching new players how to play the game perfectly, they're meant to be helping out new players... A new Lv1 Thaumaturge is not going to care about Fire IV and how to work Enochian... Mentors do not need to be masters of their Job/role, they just need to know the games basics and be in a position to help out; Having a Job in every role means you can help out in any situation. It would be impossibly for a Mentor to go "Oh, you need a Tank, sorry I can't help", because to be a Mentor you'd have to have a Tank at 60.
The Job quests do a good enough Job of teaching players how to play their Job. Scholar quests cannot be beaten without some healing; Good luck clearing the Lv60 quest without using Leeches and tossing the occasional heal out. You don't need to play it perfectly, but then you don't need to play perfectly for 90% of this game...
But yeah, Mentors are just meant to help out new players, not explain the perfect Lv60 rotation to someone who hasn't even unlocked their first Job... Stone, Sky, Sea is meant to teach people their perfect rotation. Mentors are meant to help out with duties and point new players in the direction of important quests. Each role at 60 ensures you can help out no matter what, plenty of instance runs under your belt suggests you can have a basic understanding of the games various mechanics, and the Commendation requirement is silly, because tanks/healers get them for saying nothing, but it is meant to ensure Mentors are "good" people.
