Medica is one of WHM's staple healing skills. 300 Potency isn't bad for healing up your party after a 3k hit(and adding in DS with anything makes it 30% more efficient, especially HoTs). Not to mention, Assize = Medica in Potency and restores 10% of your max MP, so don't be afraid to use it if your MP's looking around the 75% mark and you don't need to use SoS.
As for spamming Cure IIs...please no. Cures do the job just fine(plus the proc saves double the MP cost of Cure). If you need to, throw a Tetragrammaton on a single target that's rather low. Just don't use DS with it because it's still not effected by the healing potency bonus from it.
Medica is relatively niche but not because C2/C3 is better, it's because Medica II is ridiculous (in a good way) potency/MP wise, and the timing of raidwide damage mechanics is too wide apart. Typically Medica II + Succor is enough, or Medica II alone will suffice. Medica's fine for what it does, the only negative being there are not many windows to use it efficiently, and that has only been further diminished by Assize and Indom.
It's not really too weak, Medica II's just too good. I do think its MP cost could be a bit lessened; too close to Medica II's cheapness.
Agreed with above. In most cases, you will never use med 1 over med 2.
Unless it is a situation that does high aoe dmg in a multisecond window (a3s for example) then med 2 is always the better choice. Medica feels more like the aoe you want to burst spam 2 or 3 times or when the party is only missing 1 or 2k hp. Just not many situations this happens in
I believe you're claiming this in the perspective of burst healing a group up, but if not, Medica II is in this gear level more like 2,800 HP in total. The situations in which you can't let Medica II heal up the party before further heals are needed, like a Medica or individual heals on players other than the MT, in dungeons or raids, are mildly rare if you actually look at outgoing damage timelines.
Yes in terms of burst, yes medica II is the weakest but it is still by far the strongest of the Aoe Heals. There is the inital 200 potency but what puts it ahead is the HoT which is a 50 potency tick every 3 seconds, put all 30 seconds together and thats 500 which makes the medica 2 at 700 potency in total which makes it stronger than 2 medicas. And the other thing for medica to be of use is if this HoT isn't near the end of its run for you to refresh it. Like everyone else had said, when its like A3 savage where the boss does protean wave into splashs.
Cure 3 has its own strengths but the thing to remember about it is that it requires the group to coordinate together. People have to own the fight ala A3S where you have to stack for the cleave and cure 3 is perfect for that.
oh, don't forget asylum. it is in total an 800 potency aoe HoT (for free). assize 300 potency (for free). plus medica, medica 2 and cure 3.
and nothing beats presecne of mind + medica spam for burst aoe heal. yeah, i think whm is still the aoe king. this includes also regen on multiple targets.
