They should never have developed FFXIV:ARR for the PS3. It was a dying console that could barely handle the game at lowest settings. Supporting the PS3 is limiting their options.

Back when 1.0 was made the assumed thought behind bringing PC version first was so they can make fixes and a stable server network for the console. Back then it was still the PS3. However as we all know what we got was a bit overkill (even for PC's) and would never had worked on the PS3. Then there was the interface, gameplay, the over use of copy pasta to reduce the load burden, etc etc.. The original date for the PS3 was advertised but due to the bad rush job to get the game out and done. They canceled it indefinitely and thus began the free play while they rebuilt the game.
By the time they got to finishing everything for a 2.0 release, Sony announced the PS4. That is why the PS3 came out before the PS4 version and they incorporated a transfer system to migrate from the PS3 to PS4. Otherwise they would be stuck on it like XI was to the PS2. It's release had similar console changes and proximity to the PS3's announcement. Yeah its going to suck only having a PS3 at some point, but that's the nature of the beast for MMO's that expand beyond the computer market. I just wish they got rid of the number system and simply called it Final Fantasy Online. Then they can overhaul it as often as they need.
I didn't mean for this to go slightly off topic in terms of consoles. I merely wanted to know more about what direction ff14 would take in the future .
Oh there's secret areas you just have to be determined enough to find them. I'll leave you with that. And YouTube is a wonderful thing my friends.
There's less so secret areas but there is the sightseeing log.
Even if all the caves were structurally the same, I do miss them...
The caves of La Noscea. The underground areas of Thanalan. The winding trails of the black shroud. I'm probably the only one to miss that one...
Not at all. The Black Shroud was always my favorite area.
For all its copypasta, I always thought the approach to ul'dah was so beautiful in 1.0. Especially if you were coming from the black shroud at night. The city just appeared like a jewl in the sand. Isgard and Midgardsomr both also suddenly rose up from behind hills in a very breath taking way.
I will never again eagerly await passing black bush aetherite :/
