OP, if you feel you are not performing well at the new jobs why do you say the new jobs are shite? Why don't you look at your own performance instead of blaming the job? For myself I always try my best to work my style so that I can get the most out of the jobs I play, I read the forums daily to see what others have to say about abilities and I watch what other people in my party do on those jobs.
This thread should be deleted and the OP should read the class forums.

Most of the complains OP must've seen are bad players whining and complaining without having taken the time to get involved with the new jobs first.
As for AST's: Yoshida himself mentioned that he was more worried about releasing it as an overpowered job rather than a slightly weaker one. They've taken their time figuring out how exactly they need to be buffed and I think that they've done a great job in 3.07. -

OP is right... ish...
Speaking solely from playing DRK. DRK functions well in dungeons and EX fights. DRK excels in Alexander because the raid was designed so. So as far as any content goes, DRK = thumbs up. The issue truly lies in the fact that DRK doesn't stand out, and unfortunately plays it too safe. This also comes from PLD and WAR being so good at what they do, and for the most part getting better at it in 3.0. PLD has it's enmity issues, and I believe it's spells could be better? (I haven't started leveling PLD past 50 yet), but overall it got generally better at being a PLD. WAR just looks so good that I'm almost mad I decided to focus on DRK instead of my 2.x love.
DRK however just feels like a more like an aggressive PLD. It works well in content, and because of that people are willing to be cool with it, but it didn't bring anything new to tanking other than simulating DRG's level of oGCD's. This is more of an upset because NIN came in with the Mudra's, which was completely different from the focus of MNK and DRG. While I completely understand after the 2.0 WAR of them not wanting to try something completely different from the standard PLD set's on tanking, just focusing on managing the MP bar doesn't enhance the experience at all.
The overall story of DRK is to harness your darkness so that you can protect those that you care about (plus other details). However in play your just harnessing your MP bar and DPS. Thematically DRK falls short, but because it follow's PLD's footsteps it will continue to function well.
None of the new classes launched well. AST was extremely under tuned, MCH I've only got one level in so I can't really say, and DRK has a conflicting skill set that primarily works because it has enough defensive CD's to make it through.

A lot of the problems they had on release should've been seen in play testing, like GB/WM being a damage loss up until level 60 (and didn't amount to a damage increase for MCH), very low damage pre-40, and subpar damage on their way to 60 that' well behind any other dps class.
I leveled up MCH first to 60 and got through because of the novelty of it. I didn't bother touching bard until sometime after 3.05 because I was not going to play another 10 levels of a class that's fundamentally the same as MCH and functionally didn't get any new dps until 60. -

Also anyone think that the type of playstyle MCH and BRD bring is not really compatible with FFXIV? I mean the typical archetype of a bard-playstyle (which is what both seem to be based off of) is support. I don't see a support-type queue slot :| In my eyes, teams are essentially trashing a DPS slot in favor of making it support, thereby gimping your DPS. I've seen the DPS disparity pretty clearly in A1, where we put a MCH/BRD on one Oppressor and a DRG/BRD on the other...suffice to say the HP gap was typically <10-15% to the point where the DRG had to go and DPS theirs... I get that adding support means decreasing other aspects, like DPS, but this kind of disparity is kind of sad... I'd rather they do something to use everyone' unused stats...like give a team MP regen skill to classes that have no use for their MP and a team TP regen skill to classes that have no use for their TP...If they did this, and raised BRD DPS to the standard...it'd break the bard archetype for sure, but I just don't see "support" fitting into FFXIV...
