I found it easier because shielding that fight is too MP consuming. As a SCH, you're either gonna use ET to transform Succor into a big AoE healing (since Lustrate is highly needed in that fight) or burn MP too fast to shield all the incoming damage. As Diurnal AST you have another Regen (which SCH only has if he uses Eos, sacrificing his DPS support) and two AoE skills, one that is very similar to Medica II. That made things easier. However, I'm pretty sure that SCH/AST is a very tough combo and requires a lot of work from both healers.

To be honest, from your story, it just screams of just you being more comfortable with AST rather than SCH.

I guess I still don't see it... sch/sch is superior to sch/ast but sch/whm is inferior to ast/whm?

It's not inferior, it's just better for my group and for the strategy we were using. I'm pretty sure people can make WHM/SCH work (like they have been doing), so it's just about playstyle and what's better for your group. Sometimes, you just have to admit you're not skilled enough or not comfortable enough to do something. My WHM hates solo healing and likes to use the new DPS tools WHM got, so SCH is not a very good partner for him. He can pull a lot of DPS as a WHM and he just has more fun doing it that way. Since I don't like to DPS, it works pretty well for us to do WHM/AST. It's not gospel, just know that there are ways to make things work.

Probably. I'm a good SCH, according to people, and I can do a lot of DPS, but I'm more comfortable playing AST and WHM. I've adapted to AST healing style really well, so maybe it's just that.

I don't think it was a question of skill.. and as I said in the original post ive cleared all the content aside from AS1 on AST, so i'm pretty comfortable with the class. That said even though I had healed AS1 before it wasnt on an AST so there was a certain "learning" curve that I was faced with. This post wasnt about whether or not AST can do the content.. it's about how much of an inconvenience it is to a raid to bring one. We would have eventually killed it with me as an AST... I just didnt want to wipe more than we needed to.
I'm glad someone has a positive outlook on the class.. and not everyone has forsaken it. :)

I think the main problem about A1S is how unforgiving it is with raid AoE damage. It's a place where WHM shines. I think we can compare A1S AST/SCH performance to Titan EX BLM performance, maybe? A lot of people switched from BLM to SMN or something else to clear that fight because it was harder to do it as a BLM (all the moving hurt its DPS). I believe that both AST/SCH have to work out new strategies, and the raid learning curve you mentioned for AST is real; it's always going to be easier to do new raid content with the healing duo we're all used to.
And btw, I didn't say you're not skilled enough to use AST, but you're certainly not comfortable enough to use it in A1 :)

I find this interesting because both myself and my co healer prior to healing together had both co healed with a whm..and after last night we BOTH agreed that the sch/sch on AS1 trivialized all the healing mechanics and therefore was much smoother than sch/whm. Maybe we both healed with subpar whms but that's what we felt.

My WHM also has problems to deal with preys. I think it's their weakness in that fight, and it's something they need to overcome, since they only have Tetra to use as an emergency button (Bene is not good for that). But for everything else, it's amazing.

Do you not struggle just as much if not more with prey as an AST?
