Put the crucial NPC in the party already : |

I've never had a problem with this, I just try to keep up Regen on him but I've never even had him get close to dying. Maybe it's just bad tanks? Also PS4 controls are no excuse for anything, I hated them at first but now I love them. There's so many ways to customize them just have to get it the best way for you. I don't have it open now so going by memory, but the way I have mine set is L2 plus R1 cycles targets you are facing to right right, and R2 plus L1 cycles to the left. That's the main way I select enemy targets. Can also hold down L1 and press up and down on the d-pad to select enemies in the enemy list, moving up and down from whatever one you are on currently. Then I have it so that up and down on the d-pad cycles the party which is my main way of healing. If I'm targeting the boss and attacking it, I just hit up or down to select the target, and then cast on them, or hit X to select them and then cast. I then have it set so that left and right on the d-pad cycles the party/alliance/npc as this is the main way I'd target him in this battle, or target other players if I need to heal them like in the solo quests.

Also I just love when nobody bothers to read two paragraphs in. I cleared T9 as a SCH, while healing and having to mark dragons for divebombs; the difficulty of even dealing with a clunky interface wouldn't bother me but the pet doesn't interact at all. Am I just not speaking a comprehensible language with this?

I agree with your issues, it also applies to a degree to smn pets where chocobos and fairies don't even realize titan-egi (no point in other egis, but titan is the pet designed to take dmg) is there and it's very cumbersome having to manually target him because he doesn't even show in the pt window for your heals, either.

I've never had Estinien die on me and I have all 3 healers at 60. All I do is focus target him and periodically stoneskin him. Even with his massive hp though, stoneskin falls off after 2 fire roars from nidhogg and it definitely doesn't help when the dps accidentally aim the fire orbs toward him

I personally always keep important NPCs as a focus target.

I can also second the hint about Stoneskin. There's so many situations where it really feels like cheating to throw it on an NPC and laugh while they take no damage for at least the next minute.

First off, I totally agree with you OP. But having just leveled my PLD, I noticed the tank has a big effect on how much damage Estinien takes. A lot of DF tanks don't even try to tank the tankable adds or aim the fire breath away from him. The big add's fire breath actually hit Estinien pretty hard and is totally avoidable if the tank picks him immediately and is in the right position.

Tanking the adds doesn't really work, though. They rush for Estinien and it takes a couple of enmity aoes to get them back on the tank...by that time the dmg to Estinien is done or the adds are about dead. I can't remember if it was the drake group or the wyverns that are just dead set on focusing Estinien. The 2 dragons are easily taken off him, though.

Wyvern is tankable and usually the drake group pops by the time the other first add dies so it frequently stays up for a good amount of time. The first dragon is the one of main concern. I find it usually gets off 2-3 fire breaths while it's up, all of which can be aimed away.

Not sure if this was mentioned but I put estinien on focustarget so I know when to refresh stoneskin.

its not that hard put him as focus target stoneskin him etc
its only hard if the party isn't killing adds at a decent pace
