All through the Scholar quests, I dealt with the awkwardness of healing Alka Zolka. The lalafell in Tam-Tara Hard had to be carefully babysat when the content was new. But now with the advent of the Aery, I just can't stay quiet anymore. Estinian takes dumptrucks of damage right out the gate, and I play on PS4, so I have to use the unwieldy touch pad to click on him and use all my biggest heals hopefully in time not to wipe.

If it were just a matter of targeting, it would be one thing, but it's not just that. Eos won't heal NPCs unless I order her to every single embrace. For that matter, my only regen won't even touch them. It's so frustrating and mind-boggling as to why in the world they can't just throw these jerks into my party so it's not hideously inconvenient to stop them from dying. Is there any good justifiable reason for this?

P.S.: I don't wanna hear any "git gud scrub"s. Challenge in the mechanics are valid. Challenge in the interface is not.

Sorry if this sounds like a "Git Gud" post, it isnt intended. There is a challenge in how to make the interface work the way you want. Esti--Einstein really isn't too tough to heal, I haven't seen him die personally, having levelled 2 healers and a tank (and gone back in to help others). Wipes in that fight always seem to be because either
a)DPS aren't breaking the healer out of the glowy tower of doomness
or b) DPS didn't get the adds down in time for Einstein to shield us all from the bosses AoE.

I have full-on forgotten about Einstein for periods and then panicked, turned to him and realized he was barely hurt. The only time his damage is noteworthy is during the adds phase, and I haven't done this as SCH but I found that DPS-ing was more practical than healing him (when he was at a safe HP) as WHM and AST. Admittedly when he's already low he can be difficult to pick back up, so I don't let him get low (the SCH speciality), so this tells me your issue really is with targeting. I'd recommend taking a look at your settings and figuring out a way to make it work for you, I personally use targeting filters. And again, if it were just a matter of targeting, I wouldn't mind. It just bothers me to no end that there's this entire aspect of the job I'm playing- the pet- who just straight up will not interact with the person I am desperately needing to stay alive. It seems unnecessarily difficult.

This also applies to that Verdfolnir or however you spell it in fates in Churning Mists. The HP is HUGE so throwing a stoneskin on her is ridiculous.

Can confirm. I threw SS on him as my pld and watched all the beautiful 0's appear as he was hit.

You should use the target focus option.
that way you just have to press one touch to target him.

Im on PS4 too with controller and it can sometimes be pain, however what you need to do to make things easier is to adjust L1 + square,triangle,circle,x targeting, and by clicling each combination what you get to target. I got L1 + circle as only enemies and i use this mostly, when there is NPC i have L1 + X, and that one stands only for NPC's, summons and objects and stuff like that. I had one for alliance members as well for frontlines when i used to play. You can find all those on targetting in options.
Im just saying this because i think targeting with touchpad IS NIGHTMARE :/

It sounds like your group DPS being low is the biggest issue. Estinien barely takes damage if things die in a timely manner.

Nothing wrong with asking for a QoL fix; just noting that the NPC's HP bar shouldn't be creating this much difficulty unless A) you're not Stoneskinning him and B) your party does very low DPS.

Target Estinien for heals during add phase and use AoE for the party. I play a SCH on PS4 with default targeting and it isn't as difficult as you make it out to be by sheathing your weapon with L3 while then manually targeting him. Your best bet if interface is truly your biggest issue, you can change your target filters to add NPCs under character configuration to be able to target with the left or right directional pad with your weapon drawn. I haven't touched this so I dunno which one to tell you to enable.
