Windows 10 [Did you upgrade?]

I think they're handing out upgrades to OEM's (eg HP, Dell, Sony, Acer) first, because those computers have the serial number written into the BIOS. I assembled my system myself and have a OEM Win 7 Ultimate License, but it's not a branded one, so it's still "we'll let you know what it's available" too.

I'm not opposed to just outright buying a new license should I build a new system, but I can't justify building a new system that will only be 10% faster then the existing one. (Mines the i7-4770 non-K, the only thing faster is a i7-4790k, the Intel Core i7-5930K is actually 20% slower per core despite having 2 more cores)

Just a little warning for everyone: the key you get when updating to Windows 10 is some sort of OEM generic key.
Yes, even if you had a boxed version of Windows 7 or 8.1.

This means that if you change some parts from your PC, like the CPU, Motherboard or even HDD, the Windows 10 key might not be valid anymore.
You would have to go back to 7/8.1, change your hardware, and then go back to Windows 10 via the free update.

They might change that later down the line, but for now, that's how it works.

If you plan to do some upgrades, do the BEFORE updating to Windows 10.
(Be also careful of what kind of Win7/8.1 licence you have as it might becore invalid with new hardware if you have an OEM key.)

I'm not touching it even if Microsoft were to pay my a salary to use it. I don't like Windows, I hate Microsoft, I don't see the point. I was already forced into using Windows 7, I think I'll just keep it at that.

The problem will be not with your system hardware but the software itself. I deployed Windows 10 to all employee computers today at work, still waiting on some of them to get back to me on whether it finished or not, but it is lunch time.

Only one so far had to be re-installed as clean, and as it turned out it was the Bit Defender antivirus on the system causing lockups. Windows Defender is on by default after the upgrade and it may conflict with an antivirus on your system. You should try disabling or uninstalling any antivirus programs before the upgrade. Then reinstall after.

Did you defrag after the upgrade?

Everything went fine with the upgrade except that it deleted the files needed for the feature to go back to windows 7. The game seemed the same, but the benchmark scored lower. I'll be going back to 7 because 10 doesn't seem done yet and missing some features. I can't pin to start menu, windows open wherever they want instead of the last place I had them, and I had to turn off about 20 privacy options because Microsoft wants to know all of your business now. There are some other issues, but as a whole win 10 is just "meh".

yeah i have had none of those issues windows 10 feels just as fast as 8.1 did if not faster

I did a clean install as in no programs, no personal data or anything left behind, wiped the whole partition. I do have bitdefender, but i made sure to disable windows defender, i'll try unninstalling it to see how it goes. Still dont think that would affect the inital boot.

No need to defrag after formatting, there's just a bunch of nothing to re-organize

Anyone that has a GTX 970, have you experienced any graphics driver crashes? Seems like it'll only crash if FF and chrome is on at the same time.
